    Description

    Key Responsibilities and Duties:

    • Sees patients on site at assigned CMCF or affiliated location

    • While assigned to clinic at a CMCF location, sees a full schedule of patients, defined for a CMCF provider as one patient every 15 minutes during business hours

    • PGY-1s start at 1 hour per patient, and progress to 30 minutes per patient later in the year, as per the handbook

    • Treats a mixed patient population, across gender, age and ethnicity, as well as insured and uninsured patients.

    • Interviews and examines patient to determine health history and general physical condition. Performs physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines.

    • Orders or executes various tests, analyses, and diagnostic images to provide information on patient's condition.

    • Analyzes reports and findings from lab work and imaging ordered by providers

    • Diagnoses conditions as appropriate

    • Prescribes or recommends drugs or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.

    • Orders vaccinations for patients as appropriate

    • Performs minor surgery.

    • Refers patients to medical specialists or other practitioner for specialized treatment when medically appropriate.

    • Involved with patient disposition changes including admission, discharges, and/or transfer to other facilities when necessary

    • Educates patients on a variety of health topics as appropriate during patient encounters

    • Prioritizes and addresses multi-patient care needs in order to maintain excellent care delivery to patients, and a cooperative and team based environment

    • Performs complex problem solving, rapid decision making in intense environments, long periods of work , long periods of standing, long periods of sitting, frequent circadian work changes and sleep interruption.

    • Provides accurate and timely documentation of all patient encounters including phone encounters and/or relevant patient care communication

    • Completes Electronic Superbills on a daily basis that includes accurate ICD-9 and CPT codes

    • Works professionally with ancillary staff in multiple clinical settings (ie hospital, clinic, nursing home) which include but not limited to nursing, medical assistants, office managers, team leads, radiology technicians, phlebotomists etc.

    • Reports births, deaths, and outbreak of contagious diseases to governmental authorities.

    • Participates in provider staff meetings to develop problem-solving techniques, and acquire team-building skills.

    • Coordinates care for patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting to ensure safe, affordable, timely, and appropriate dispositions such as but not limited to discussion with social workers, case managers, rehabilitation teams, hospice, pharmacists, home health, etc.

    • Participates in peer reviews.

    • Participates in Quality Improvement.

    • Participates in patient care in BMC and BMC NH and other facilities as scheduled by the Residency.

    • Able to ambulate within the grounds of BMC and Cahaba clinic sites with reasonable accomodations, activities not limited to climbing stairs, walking rounds, walking up/downhill etc., patient care activities including physical exams on examination table, scrubbing into surgeries etc.

    • Represents CMCF at conferences, meetings, and continuing education programs

    • Attends scheduled lectures and workshops within the residency

    • Completes residency educational curriculum according to defined minimum requirements as dictated on the flipped classroom tracker guide

    • Performs other duties as assigned or as needed.

    • Administrative and Supervisory responsibility:

    Teach and mentor medical students and junior residents as assigned by the PD. Serves as a resource to mid-level providers in clinic.

    • Provides evaluations of their teachers and service rotations

    • Complete monthly AFP article review and quizzes

    • Manage dedicated study time and complete required learning modules in a timely manner

    • Participates in community medicine engagement events (ex. Health fairs, public talks)

    Qualifications & Skills:

    • Interest in working with a rural, urban, or international underserved population highly desired.

    • Must be able to secure credentialing through Bibb Medical Center and DCH Regional Medical Center

    • Must meet the requirements of the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners

    • Must obtain DEA registration to prescribe controlled substances

    • Must have passing scores for USMLE (or COMLEX) Steps 1, 2CK, and 2CS
