Description

Our client, a leading healthcare institution dedicated to comprehensive mental health services, is hiring a Physician Assistant (PA) for Primary Care in Inpatient Adult Psychiatry. This vital role supports the delivery of medical care to adult psychiatric patients within a complex inpatient setting, contributing significantly to patient outcomes and multidisciplinary team efforts. The Physician Assistant will be responsible for providing medical management during evening and weekend shifts, collaborating closely with psychiatric residents, attending physicians, and the nursing staff. The role involves managing routine medical problems, assisting with diagnoses, administering treatments, and supporting patient safety in a high-acuity environment. The PA may participate in coverage at the CPEP as needed and will report directly to the Director of Medical Services within the Department of Psychiatry. The schedule includes shifts on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 4:00 PM to midnight, and Saturdays from 8:00 AM to midnight, with some flexibility in start and end times. Orientation will be provided, tailored to the candidate's experience and confidence level, with training conducted alongside the daytime medical team.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing medical care to adult psychiatric inpatients during designated hours.
  • Working collaboratively with psychiatric residents and attending psychiatrists to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Managing routine medical issues, including assessments, medication management, and documentation.
  • Supporting coverage at urgent care points such as CPEP when required.
  • Contributing to patient safety and quality of care within the inpatient psychiatric setting.
  • Participating in orientation and ongoing training as needed.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
  • Current New York State registration and license as a Physician Assistant.
  • NCCPA certification.
  • New graduates are encouraged to apply; experienced PAs are preferred but not mandatory.
  • Comfort with managing routine medical conditions in an inpatient psychiatric setting.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Interest in providing primary care to a psychiatric population.
