Job Description
GENERAL OVERVIEW
This job is an integral part of the care delivery system, working together to provide a healing environment by placing our customers first. The incumbent provides specialty and critical care healthcare services in physician offices and non-acute based settings with a focus on chronic health conditions in specific populations in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization within the Physician Assistants scope of practice. Specialty certification, advanced procedures, with appropriate privileging, weekend, and on-call coverage on a rotational basis as required. E-consults and telehealth could be included in the care provided.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides appropriate patient care to include recording patient medical history and physical assessment, developing therapeutic care plan, ordering diagnostic tests, interpreting test results, discharge planning, and providing accurate medical record documentation for patients in physician offices and non-acute based settings.
Orders, interprets, and evaluates laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic studies appropriate for the patients condition to determine and implement treatment plans.
Makes medical diagnoses and institutes appropriate therapy within the applicable scope and standards of practice.
Institutes emergency measures, treatment, or appropriate stabilization in acute patient situations such as cardiac arrest, hemorrhage, or shock.
Ensures appropriate understanding and timely documentation in the EMR to support accurate medical coding and billing and reports pertinent information to the attending physician of record.
Educates patients and family members regarding health and illness prevention, medication, and treatment instructions, and recommends community resources as needed.
Communicates effectively with the attending physician regarding the plan of care and involves them in clinical decision-making for any issues outside the Physician Assistants knowledge base or scope of practice.
Maintains mandatory professional continuing education, actively participates in patient safety, quality improvement, and patient engagement initiatives, and maintains professional practice consistent with organizational and advanced practice mission statements and specialty-specific privileges.
Specialty specific procedures and expectations as stated with privileging and job agreement.
