Summary:Provides appropriate specialized inpatient and outpatient Neurosurgery & Orthopedic Spine Health Care Services.
Performs examinations and provides treatment to minor/routine problems; performs or orders diagnostic tests; establishes diagnosis; prescribes medication; instructs patients and family members about continuing care.
Position Reports To: Practice Manager
Responsibilities:Sees new office patients and completes a thorough history and physical examination that is problem-oriented for neurosurgical conditions. Evaluates post-operative patients and does routine follow-up visits.
Formulates a differential diagnosis and establishes a working diagnosis. Interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
Develops a treatment plan for neurosurgical conditions within the scope of practice and in conjunction with the neurosurgeon. Refers patients to specialty services when appropriate.
Evaluation and reprogramming of VP shunts.
Assisting in OR and outpatient clinic with on call duties as assigned, cross trained to work with all department surgeons.
Assists with neurosurgical and orthopedic spine procedures, including craniotomies, Intrathecal Baclofen Pump placement, spinal procedures (including instrumentations) and microscopic procedures.
Closes deep and superficial wounds.
Conducts hospital rounds of all patients including those admitted to the intensive care unit. Handles discharge planning and dictates discharge summaries.
Performs initial evaluations on hospital consults and ED consults as directed.
Placement and management of ventricular/ICP monitoring.
Placement and management of lumbar drains.
Writes prescriptions and perform procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols, and available equipment.
Maintains accurate and complete patient records in compliance with organizational policy.
Required to maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
