    Job Summary

    Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant (PA) to join our growing General Orthopedic Surgery team in Irving, Texas. This full-time position provides a unique opportunity to practice across both the inpatient and outpatient settings while working alongside a collaborative team of six orthopedic providers.

    The Physician Assistant will provide comprehensive orthopedic care including inpatient rounding, hospital consults, first assisting in surgery, post-operative management, and outpatient clinic responsibilities. The role supports multiple orthopedic subspecialties, including general orthopedics, sports medicine, total joint replacement, and orthopedic trauma.

    This position is ideal for a motivated surgical Physician Assistant who enjoys patient continuity across the entire episode of care, from consultation and surgery through recovery and follow-up.

    Essential Functions of the Role

    • Performs comprehensive and focused assessments of orthopedic patients, including detailed medical histories and physical examinations.
    • Evaluates and manages orthopedic conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
    • Conducts hospital rounding and manages orthopedic consults.
    • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic imaging and laboratory studies.
    • Develops and implements evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with supervising orthopedic surgeons.
    • Serves as First Assist in orthopedic surgical procedures.
    • Provides pre-operative and post-operative care, including hospital rounding, discharge planning, and outpatient follow-up visits.
    • Performs procedures within scope of practice, including injections, splinting, casting, wound care, and suture management.
    • Monitors patients for complications and initiates appropriate interventions.
    • Educates patients and families regarding treatment plans, surgical recovery, rehabilitation, and injury prevention.
    • Maintains accurate, timely, and compliant documentation of patient care and outcomes.
    • Coordinates care with physical therapy, case management, nursing, and other healthcare professionals.
    • Supports multiple orthopedic physicians and providers across the practice.
    • Participates in call coverage responsibilities supporting orthopedic and trauma patients as assigned.
    • Assists in maintaining quality, safety, and patient satisfaction initiatives.

    • Understanding of orthopedic trauma, sports medicine, total joints, and general orthopedic conditions.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
    • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Texas.
    • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer.
    • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in Orthopedics or another surgical specialty.
