The Department of Physical Therapy at Central Michigan University invite applications for a 10-month, part-time, fixed-term position at the rank of instructor.

The Department of Physical Therapy seeks a faculty member with experience in clinical education and didactic teaching for a Regional Clinical Coordinator (RCC) position. This faculty position has administrative and academic responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the academic program. As a member of the clinical education team, the primary responsibilities of the RCC are to coordinate, facilitate, and monitor the learning experiences of students participating in external clinical affiliation education experiences. The clinical education team includes the Director of Clinical Education, three additional RCCs, and a support staff member. This RCC position will primarily provide supervision and service for students assigned to clinical partners in the northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan requiring significant travel in the region to visit and support students and clinical faculty at affiliating sites in the specified region. Specific RCC responsibilities include: facilitating quality learning experiences for students within the assigned region; mentoring clinical instructors; providing guidance and support to individual students and clinical instructors as needed; serving as a research advisor for completion of case report requirements; assisting and enhancing students' ability to problem-solve, critically think and self-reflect through advising and planned assignments during the clinical experience; organize and facilitate meetings for assigned students during the clinical experiences in the regions described above. Occasionally, this RCC will supervise and provide service for students that are assigned to clinical experiences in states other than Michigan. Technology may be used for communication for these agencies during clinical experiences.

Responsibilities:

Faculty members are expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, student advising.

• Teaching. Primary teaching responsibilities include students during external clinical experiences.
• Research. Directing graduate student research primarily in the form of case reports.
• Service. Involvement in campus, community, and professional service with emphasis on service related to external partnerships for clinical education and students.
• Clinical Practice. Participation to remain clinically active as a practicing clinician is encouraged as this facilitates knowledge and practice is authentically valuable for mentoring students during their clinical education.

This position will begin with the Spring 2027 semester. Some training and orientation may be scheduled prior to the start of the semester to support a smooth transition into the position. Specific arrangements will be discussed with the selected candidate.

Required Qualifications

• Licensed or eligible for physical therapy licensure in Michigan.
• Doctoral degree in physical therapy or post-physical therapy doctoral degree.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience as a licensed physical therapist.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience as a clinical instructor (CI) or combination of 5 years' experience as a CI and/or site coordinator of clinical education (SCCE).
• Adheres to American Physical Therapy Association, American Physical Therapy Association- Michigan's ethical and legal guidelines of practice.
• Exhibits current knowledge and skill in physical therapy practice, especially as applicable to clinical education.
• Entry level knowledge of educational, management, and adult learning theory and principle.
• Knowledge of case report research including clinical data interpretation, understanding of ethical guidelines, and relevant literature synthesis.
• Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, teaching, and learning principles.
• Current knowledge and skill in use of information and computer technology and/or ability to update these skills.
• Ability to work independently, travel and coordinate work with colleagues, peers, and students.
• Current valid driver's license, satisfactory driving record, and transportation for travel requirements.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Member of the American Physical Therapy Association and American Physical Therapy Association - Michigan.
• Member of the Academy of Education of the American Physical Therapy Association and/or Consortium for Clinical Education of the American Physical Therapy Association of Michigan.
• American Physical Therapy Association Credentialed Clinical Instructor or intent to pursue credentials.
• Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal and practice issues impacting clinical education, students, and the physical therapy profession.
• Active professional activities associated with physical therapy at the local, state, and/or national levels.
• Board certifications in ABPTS recognized specialty or other equivalent certifications (residency/fellowship).
• Knowledge of hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and physical therapy practices in either or both Upper Lower Michigan or the Upper Peninsula.

CMU offers a doctoral degree program in physical therapy (DPT) through its Department of Physical Therapy within The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions. The Department of Physical Therapy offers a case-orientated curriculum with a mission of preparing knowledgeable, skillful, reflective, and ethical physical therapists who practice with sound clinical reasoning to enhance the health, function, and well-being of their patients, partners, and society. The program has a unique clinical education model which includes a sequence of five clinical education experiences - two integrated mock clinical experiences and three external full, time clinical education experiences and a clinical education team that works collaboratively and closely with students and clinical partners to bridge didactic experiences to authentical clinical practice. Faculty have access to state-of-the-art technology and outstanding facilities for education, research, and clinical practice, including a dedicated classroom, simulation center, and laboratory space.
