    The Physical Therapist Assistant assists the Physical Therapist in the provision of physical therapy. The incumbent shall perform physical therapy procedures and related tasks that have been selected and delegated by the supervising Physical Therapist. The Physical Therapist Assistant may modify a specific treatment procedure in accordance with changes in patient status within the scope of the Physical Therapist's established treatment plan. The incumbent documents patient progress notes. The incumbent shall safety and effectively provide physical therapy procedures as directed by their supervising Physical Therapist. The incumbent shall address appropriately the age-specific needs for all patients. The incumbent will treat patients and families with respect and dignity. Patients pain will be assessed and treated according to the departments pain management policy. It is the philosophy of Mercy Hospital to optimize patients' comfort while they are in the hospital. The incumbent will identify and report any patient safety issue when identified. The Physical Therapist Assistant shall provide technical assistance and direction to the Physical Therapy aide and coordinates the workload in the department as directed.

    Mercy is seeking a compassionate and skilled Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join our rehabilitation team in Springfield, Missouri. In this role, you'll work closely with licensed Physical Therapists to help patients regain mobility, improve function, and achieve their rehabilitation goals in a supportive, patient-centered environment.

    As a PTA, you will provide high-quality physical therapy treatments, monitor patient progress, document outcomes, and contribute to exceptional patient care while ensuring safety and dignity for every individual served.

    What You'll Do

    • Implement physical therapy treatment plans developed by the supervising Physical Therapist.
    • Perform therapeutic exercises, gait training, transfer training, and mobility activities.
    • Administer modalities including ultrasound, electrical stimulation, hot and cold packs, and whirlpool treatments.
    • Assist with wound care procedures while adhering to sterile technique and safety protocols.
    • Monitor patient responses to treatment and communicate changes promptly to the supervising Physical Therapist.
    • Document patient progress accurately and timely in accordance with department standards.
    • Assess and respond to patient pain management needs during treatment sessions.
    • Provide age-appropriate care to patients across the lifespan, from newborns to geriatric populations.
    • Collaborate effectively with patients, families, physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
    • Provide guidance and technical assistance to Physical Therapy Aides as directed.
    • Identify and report patient safety concerns and support Mercy's commitment to quality care.

    Qualifications

    Required Education

    • Associate Degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program

    Required Licensure

    • Current Physical Therapist Assistant license in the state of practice, or state-authorized temporary permit/license where applicable

    Required Certification

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers

    Experience

    • Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply

    About Company

    Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 185 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who wanted to help the poor women and children of Dublin. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill her dreams. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to poor women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, the first religious order not bound to the rules of the cloister, whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. By the time Catherine died in 1841, there were convents in Ireland and England, and in 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States.
