Travel Physical Therapist (PT) – Acute Care

Location: Austin, TX

Schedule: Monday–Friday with rotating weekends every 3–4 weekends

Position Overview

Heart Hospital of Austin is seeking an experienced Physical Therapist (PT) for a 13-week acute care travel assignment. The ideal candidate will have strong acute care experience, with ICU/CCU and acute cardiac care experience highly preferred.

The PT may be the only physical therapist working on weekends, so the ability to work independently, prioritize patient needs, and coordinate effectively with the multidisciplinary care team is essential.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Texas PT license

  • Acute care physical therapy experience

  • ICU/CCU experience required

  • Ability to work independently and manage weekend coverage

  • Strong communication and coordination skills

  • Excellent time management and attendance

  • Patient-focused and safety-conscious approach

Preferred Qualifications

  • Acute cardiac care experience

  • Wound care experience/certification preferred but not required

  • Experience with cardiac surgery and complex cardiac patients

Facility & Unit Information

  • 72-bed Heart Hospital

  • Located across Floors 1–3

  • Staff includes:

    • 2 Full-Time PTs

    • 1 OT

    • PRN Speech Therapist

  • The unit provides care for complex cardiac patients, including:

    • Open-heart procedures

    • TAVR

    • LVAD implantation

Work Environment

This is a small, supportive hospital environment with excellent communication between therapy, nursing, physicians, case management, and other clinical teams.

The therapy team has highly experienced staff, including PTs with 15+ and 30+ years of experience, with one staff PT holding a wound care certification. The team is collaborative and readily available to support one another with patient and staffing needs.

The department uses iMobile for communication with hospitalists, case managers, RNs, and other members of the care team.
