Job Summary
The Physical Therapist Assistant, under the direction of a physical therapist, is responsible for assisting with tests and providing restorative and rehabilitative physical therapy services to participants in various settings. The role focuses on maximizing participant independence and safety while developing or restoring function. The assistant collaborates effectively with colleagues and stakeholders to promote organizational values, team culture, and mission.
Job Responsibilities
- Administer treatment programs as established by the Physical Therapist.
- Assist in obtaining vital signs, range of motion, and strength testing.
- Coordinate with the rehabilitation team to implement activities and programs based on individual treatment plans.
- Handle scheduling of treatment, clinical visits, and billing.
- Deliver and document interventions in accordance with established care plans, including the use of devices and techniques to promote muscle re-education, perceptual-motor and cognitive function, balance, and endurance.
- Provide training and instructions to staff, participants, and caregivers in the use and care of therapeutic equipment.
- Track and manage maintenance for equipment.
- Remain alert to input from team members, participants, and caregivers, updating the Physical Therapist promptly of any changes in condition or functional status.
- Participate in end-of-life care coordination and support under supervision.
- Practice legally and within the scope of authority.
- Complete all required documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
- Protect privacy and maintain confidentiality of all company procedures and information.
- Follow company policies and participate in required quality improvement activities, staff training, and meetings.
- Communicate regularly with the supervisor and team regarding workload and priorities.
- Complete all mandated training, education, and health screenings as needed.
- Exercise flexibility in performing assignments as business needs evolve.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum of two years' experience in a clinical setting with a frail or elderly population.
- Knowledge and skills necessary to treat frail, elderly participants with complex needs.
- Highly motivated, self-directed, and able to execute tasks in a rapidly changing environment.
- Excellent clinical, organizational, and communication skills in settings with seniors, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience and competency working with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Commitment to unlocking the full potential of vulnerable seniors.
Schedule Notes
The schedule is Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4:30 PM, with a combination of on-site and mobile work depending on participant needs. 1-2 days are dedicated to home visits for safety and therapy needs. The role involves participation in interdisciplinary meetings and care coordination in addition to direct patient care. Reliable transportation is required. The assistant is expected to see 4-6 participants daily, including assessments and treatment, along with mandatory care conference meetings.
