Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) / Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)

Position Overview

Certified Hand Therapy Services is seeking a motivated and patient-focused Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our outpatient hand therapy practice on a full-time basis. The ideal candidate is dependable, clinically skilled, and interested in working with patients recovering from orthopedic injuries, surgeries, and other conditions affecting the hand and upper extremity. Previous experience in hand therapy, outpatient orthopedics, or upper-extremity rehabilitation is preferred. The PTA/COTA will work collaboratively with our licensed Physical and Occupational Therapists to carry out established plans of care and provide high-quality, individualized treatment to help patients improve function and achieve their rehabilitation goals.

Responsibilities

• Provide skilled therapeutic interventions in accordance with established plans of care and within the scope of practice for a licensed PTA or COTA.
• Treat patients with orthopedic, traumatic, post-surgical, neurological, and repetitive-use conditions affecting the hand and upper extremity.
•  Implement therapeutic exercise, therapeutic activities, neuromuscular re-education, manual techniques, and other interventions as directed by the supervising therapist and permitted within scope of practice.

• Monitor patient response to treatment and communicate changes in patient status, progress, or concerns to the supervising PT or OT.
• Reinforce patient education regarding home exercise programs, precautions, activity modification, injury prevention, and self-management strategies.
• Assist patients in progressing toward functional goals established within their plan of care.
• Complete accurate and timely treatment documentation in accordance with clinic policies, payer requirements, and applicable regulations.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with supervising therapists, clinical staff, and administrative team members to support continuity of care.
• Maintain treatment areas, equipment, and supplies in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
• Follow clinic policies and procedures and maintain compliance with professional standards and applicable state and federal regulations.
• Participate in a collaborative clinic environment focused on excellent patient care and positive patient outcomes.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant or Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
• Current and unrestricted Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) or Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) license in the State of Colorado.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.
• Knowledge of therapeutic exercise, functional rehabilitation, and basic orthopedic rehabilitation principles.
• Ability to safely and effectively carry out treatment interventions under the direction and supervision of a licensed PT or OT.
• Strong interpersonal and patient communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a clinical team.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation.
• Commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous clinical experience in hand therapy or upper-extremity rehabilitation.
• Previous experience in an outpatient orthopedic rehabilitation setting.
• Experience treating post-operative orthopedic patients.
• Familiarity with common hand and upper-extremity diagnoses, precautions, and rehabilitation protocols.
• Familiarity with therapeutic modalities and manual treatment techniques used in outpatient rehabilitation.
• Experience using electronic medical records and therapy documentation systems.
• Interest in developing additional clinical knowledge and skills in hand and upper-extremity rehabilitation.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to perform the physical duties associated with outpatient rehabilitation, including standing, sitting, bending, reaching, assisting patients with therapeutic activities, performing appropriate hands-on treatment techniques, and safely handling therapy equipment and supplies. The employee must also be able to safely assist patients as necessary during treatment and perform repetitive hand and upper-extremity movements associated with clinical care.
