PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Support teachers in their work with individual students and students in small groups in order to reinforce and promote academic and behavioral successes; Assist classroom teachers in classroom behavior management; Assist teaching staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing content material and skills based on an understanding of individual student needs, interests and abilities; Monitor and support students in computer assisted activities; Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students; Supervision of students during meal times and classroom transition times; Participate in staff in-service programs as assigned; Assists with lifting, feeding, and toileting of students as needed; Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED; Previous experience in a classroom setting preferred; Familiarity with accepted practices and procedures in working with students, to include those with behavioral problems; Ability to demonstrate a high degree of understanding and acceptance of all children and interest in the education of students with special needs; Ability to follow instructions; Ability to accept supervision; Ability to communicate effectively; A doctor's note stating you are able to assist students with disabilities with Activities of Daily Living (ADL), which may involve lifting, pulling, etc.
