Job Title: Phlebotomist - NorthvilleJob Description

This phlebotomist position offers hands-on experience in an outpatient setting, performing frequent blood draws, specimen collection, and processing. You will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely sample handling while coordinating closely with clinic staff and supporting high-quality diagnostic testing. The role offers both stationary and float opportunities and is ideal for someone looking to deepen their phlebotomy experience in a collaborative clinical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws and specimen collection, completing approximately 25-30 patient blood samples per day with a high level of accuracy and care.
  • Properly process collected specimens according to established procedures, ensuring correct handling, labeling, and preparation for transport.
  • Package samples securely and in compliance with guidelines to maintain specimen integrity during transit.
  • Communicate daily with clinic staff to organize and schedule blood draws and coordinate patient flow.
  • Schedule and arrange pick-ups or shipping of processed samples to the designated medical testing sites in Novi and Farmington.
  • Apply knowledge of order of draw and BD Vacutainer tube color sequence when collecting multiple tubes to ensure valid test results.
  • Maintain a professional, patient-focused approach, helping patients feel comfortable during blood collection.
  • Adhere to all clinical protocols, safety standards, and quality assurance procedures related to specimen collection and processing.
  • Collaborate with on-site and offsite team members, adjusting to varying team sizes and locations while maintaining consistent performance.

Essential Skills

  • At least 6 months of experience as a phlebotomist or medical assistant performing blood draws, specimen processing, and packaging.
  • Demonstrated experience completing 200 or more solo blood draws.
  • Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques, including venipuncture and specimen collection in an outpatient setting.
  • Ability to process and package blood samples accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong understanding of the order of draw for blood collection.
  • Knowledge of BD Vacutainer tube colors and correct order of draw for multiple tube collections.
  • Phlebotomy or medical assistant certification or certificate.
  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Clear and effective communication skills for coordinating with clinic staff and team members.
  • Reliability and commitment to work with no planned time off in the next 90 days.

  • Experience working in outpatient clinical environments.
  • Comfort working both in stationary roles and in float positions across different locations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team, adapting to varying on-site staffing levels.
  • Attention to detail in labeling, documentation, and sample handling.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage daily schedules for blood draws and specimen shipments.
  • Commitment to patient care and a professional demeanor during all interactions.

Work Environment

The role is based in an outpatient clinical setting with a mix of stationary and float assignments. On the main Farmington site, approximately 15 people work on location, creating a supportive and collaborative environment. At individual offsite locations, you may work with anywhere from 0-2 colleagues, and at some offsite sites you may be part of a team of 0-3 people, so comfort with both independent work and small-team collaboration is important. Team members wear navy blue scrubs as standard attire. The work involves regular coordination with clinic staff and medical testing facilities in Novi and Farmington, and daily handling of blood samples using standard phlebotomy equipment, including BD Vacutainer tubes.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Northville, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
