Role: Pharmacy Technician
Core Duties:
- Assist pharmacists with preparation, packaging, labeling, and distribution of medications in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Accurately enter prescription and medication orders into pharmacy systems such as CPRS/VistA.
- Prepare unit-dose medications, IV admixtures, and sterile/non-sterile compounds under supervision.
- Manage medication inventory, restock automated dispensing cabinets, and monitor for expired medications.
- Provide customer service to patients and clinical staff while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Support outpatient dispensing workflow including prescription processing, refill management, and patient interactions.
- Maintain compliance with VA policies, Joint Commission standards, and pharmacy regulations.
- Assist with medication reconciliation and ensure accurate documentation of pharmacy activities.
- Setting: VA hospital and outpatient pharmacy environment
- May rotate between inpatient and outpatient pharmacy operations
- May work across multiple VA sites
- Systems Used: CPRS/VistA
- Shift Lengths: Varied
- Schedule: Days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- No on-call or standby required
- PRN/call-out coverage may be required with as little as 2 hours’ notice
Contract Length: 1 year additional 4 year extension
Minimum 1–2 years of recent pharmacy technician experience within the last 24 months.
- PTCB (CPhT) or NHA (ExCPT) certification required
- 1–2 years of recent pharmacy technician experience within the last 24 months
- Experience in inpatient, outpatient, or hospital pharmacy settings
- BLS (AHA) may be required depending on assignment
- Must complete VA onboarding, immunizations, credentialing, and background requirements.
- Must be detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must demonstrate professionalism and strong communication skills.
- Must comply with VA and facility policies at all times.
