Job Description

The Registered Pharmacy Technician provides high-quality customer service and operational support in a fast-paced clinic pharmacy. This role responds to inbound and outbound calls, assists patients and caregivers with pharmacy-related inquiries, processes new referrals and refills, verifies insurance coverage, and coordinates prescription delivery. The technician supports pharmacological services by accurately transcribing prescriptions, maintaining compliant patient records, and ensuring medications are filled and aligned according to the cycle fill calendar.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to inbound and outbound calls from patients, caregivers, and providers while maintaining a high level of customer service and productivity.
  • Provide direct in-person and phone-based support to answer and resolve a wide variety of inquiries related to pharmacy services, prescription status, and delivery timelines.
  • Handle refill calls and pharmacy assistance calls, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in processing requests.
  • Address questions regarding products and services, including timeliness of receipt of goods and services, and help resolve customer complaints in a professional manner.
  • Receive and process new pharmacy referrals, verify insurance coverage, and facilitate prior authorization requests as needed.
  • Accurately transcribe prescriptions into the pharmacy system, ensuring all information is complete and correct.
  • Generate and review reports that follow the cycle fill calendar to manage and follow up on refill requests via e-prescribe, facsimile, or phone.
  • Coordinate prescription delivery and serve as the first point of contact for service-related inquiries and associated needs.
  • Support pharmacological services by editing and verifying fill lists, including insurance information, last fill date, billing, toting, and short-fill alignment of patient medications according to the cycle fill calendar.
  • Update patient information in the pharmacy system when necessary to maintain accurate and current records.
  • Coordinate initiation of care with patients or caregivers, referral sources, and other providers of care to ensure seamless service.
  • Enter patient information into the patient record accurately and completely, maintaining all records in compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations.
  • Contribute to inventory, labeling, order entry, and fulfillment activities to support overall pharmacy operations.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service, teamwork, punctuality, organization, time management, and problem-solving in daily work.
  • Report to pharmacy leadership as required, following established workflows and procedures for a high-volume pharmacy environment.

Essential Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a board-approved pharmacy technician training program.
  • Valid Florida Pharmacy Technician License.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a medical insurance, billing, or customer service environment.
  • Strong knowledge of medication brand and generic names, dosing, and day supply calculations.
  • Proficiency with pharmacy operations including data entry, order entry, fulfillment, labeling, inventory, and prior authorization processes.
  • Advanced skill in Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on Excel and Access.
  • Strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service in person and over the phone.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patients, caregivers, providers, and internal staff.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated punctuality and reliability.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective time management skills to handle high call and prescription volumes.
  • Solid problem-solving skills to resolve customer issues and operational challenges.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA privacy and security regulations.

Work Environment

This role is 100% onsite in a clinic pharmacy environment that is fast-paced and high volume, processing approximately 1,500 prescriptions per week as a team. You will work alongside a close-knit staff of pharmacy technicians and pharmacists, collaborating daily to manage prescription fulfillment, patient inquiries, and delivery coordination. The typical schedule is Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with rotating Saturday shifts supported by technicians and a PharmD. The environment is professional yet friendly, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, efficiency, and accuracy. The pharmacy frequently enjoys catered lunches provided by vendor representatives, contributing to a positive and engaging workplace culture.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oakland Park, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
