Job Summary

The Pharmacy Prior Authorization (PA) Technician is responsible for processing both telephonic and written prior authorization requests for medications submitted by physicians and pharmacies. The technician will utilize healthcare knowledge and an interactive application to evaluate requests, apply clinical guidelines, and assist in determining prior authorization outcomes. This role requires a strong understanding of medication review processes, clinical algorithms, and pharmacy benefit guidelines to support accurate and timely pre-certification decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process telephonic and written prior authorization requests for medications.
  • Review medication requests submitted by physicians and pharmacies.
  • Utilize internal systems and clinical decision-support tools to evaluate authorization requests.
  • Apply clinical algorithms and medication review guidelines to determine pre-certification outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, pharmacists, and healthcare providers regarding authorization requests.
  • Ensure accurate documentation while maintaining compliance with company policies and HIPAA regulations.
  • Deliver excellent customer service while managing a high-volume workload.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in one or more of the following:

  • Pharmacy Services

  • Healthcare Settings

  • Utilization Review

  • Previous customer service experience is required.

  • Experience working with pharmacists and physicians is required.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
