Pharmacy Technician I/II/II (Montgomery)

This position is located in Montgomery, AL.

The Harrison College of Pharmacy at Auburn University is excited to begin the search for a Pharmacy Technician, I/II/III. Under the supervision of a Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician provides skilled and technical assistance to the pharmacist in pharmacies operated by the Harrison College of Pharmacy to include assisting with dispensing prescriptions, providing routine customer service to patients and assisting in maintaining inventory. 

The Harrison College of Pharmacy operates The SEIB State Wellness Center, a health care facility conveniently located in downtown Montgomery, offering a variety of services to state and local government employees and their dependents covered by the State Employees’ Health Insurance Plan (SEHIP) and Local Government Health Insurance Plan (LGHIP).

• Assists a registered pharmacist in dispensing prescriptions to patients to include receiving prescription refill requests and new prescription requests, verifying that information is accurate, and entering prescription information into computer database accurately and efficiently.
• Provides customer service by responding to routine inquiries concerning prescriptions, prescription insurance coverage, and pharmacy prescription records. Forwards complex issues to supervisor.
• Maintains pharmacy inventory in roles to include ordering medications, receiving medications, verifying medication shipments, approving invoices, stocking, checking for outdated medication currently in inventory and supervision of others in these activities.
• Maintains and stocks automated dispensing machines.
• Performs payment processing, cashier functions, and financial reporting including daily transactions, opening and closing cash register, end of day financial reporting, and troubleshooting issues that arise in daily activities.
• Executes troubleshooting of pharmacy software, reporting, and related technology including insurance rejections, software or hardware malfunctions and new technology implementation.
• Completes continuing education and required job training courses pertinent to the position.
• Provides advice and consultation to supervisors and managers regarding internal policies, procedures, and practices.
• Assists in developing or modifying processes based on unit objectives and feedback from employees and management. May train others in new process implementation. 

Level I:

• High school diploma or GED

Level II:

• High school diploma or GED
• 1 year of experience in providing assistance to a pharmacist or in a pharmacy setting

Level III:

• High school diploma or GED
• 4 years of experience in providing assistance to a pharmacist or in a pharmacy setting

License and Certifications:

Alabama Pharmacy Technician License and National Pharmacy Technician Certification required upon hire.

Substitution allowed for Experience:

When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.

• Knowledge of pharmacology terminology and prescriptions and pharmacy calculations.
• Knowledge of processes, methods, and procedures of all federal, state and local regulations applicable to pharmacy and knowledge of prescription filling processes.
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services to include customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
• Accurate data entry skills and ability to perform multiple pharmacy related software programs and their utilization.
• Knowledge of financial reporting, critical thinking, and problem solving.
• Strong communication skills for communicating with a wide variety of individuals.
• Ability to learn multiple pharmacy related software programs
• Microsoft Office experience
• Knowledge of processes, methods, and procedures associated with a limited range of scientific problems.  

Minimum License requirements:

• Level I, II & III- AL Pharmacy Technician License required.
• Level III – National Pharmacy Technician Certification also required.
