    POSITION SPECIFICS

    Title: Pharmacy Technician

    FTE: 1.0 FTE (80 hours per 2-week pay period)

    Schedule: Will rotate through three scheduled shifts: 0630 – 1500, 0800-1630, 0900-1730

    Holiday Rotation:2 holidays annually, 0630-1500   

    Weekend Rotation: 1 weekend per month

    On Call Requirements: None

    POSITION SUMMARY

    Working under the direction of the Pharmacists and Pharmacy Director, assist with the day-to-day operation of the Pharmacy Department.

    POSITION TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Perform unit dose drug packaging and distribution throughout the hospital, including the preparation of daily patient drug supply and performing labeling function accurately and efficiently.

    • Prepare intravenous admixtures and compounding, including maintaining sterile technique at all times and accurately performs pharmacy math calculations.

    • Responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date narcotic record keeping.

    • Responsible for daily checking of the pharmacy medication refrigerator/freezer temperature.

    • Fill and restock Omnicell cabinets. 

    • Fill medication drawers, keep them updated, and exchange them once daily (M-F, excluding weekends and holidays).

    • Fill and exchange anesthesia drug trays.

    • Responsible for the review, reconciliation, and resolution of Pharmacy billing issues, including Omnicell and Surgery.

    • Sort medications and return them to shelves (when appropriate) after a patient is discharged.

    • Fill and distribute drugs to other departments and clinics based on completed pharmacy request or drug requisition order form.

    • Manage Pharmacy inventory, including maintaining adequate stock level and stickering, scanning, and putting away drugs on the shelves when they arrive.

    • Check all medications in assigned area(s) for outdates and for regulatory compliance gaps.

    • Assist in data collection for QI or outcome studies.

    • Clean shelves and drawers as needed.

    • Attend Pharmacy staff meetings and other meetings as assigned by the Pharmacy Director.

    • Perform other assigned duties as determined by the Pharmacists and Pharmacy Director.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    Education:

    • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent

    • Preferred: None

    Experience:

    • Required: None

    • Preferred: 1-year experience in a hospital pharmacy

    Licenses and Registrations:

    • Required: Pharmacy Technician registration with the WI Dept of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS). Must apply for registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the WI Dept of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) and provide proof of application to their SPH Recruiter prior to start date.

    • Preferred: Pharmacy Technician Certification Board, Inc. (PTCB) certification
