    Description

    Pharmacy Technician Casual Day/Night shift - must be available for the following hours.

    7:00 a.m.-7:30 p.m. / 7:00 p.m. - 7:30 a.m. / 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

    Purpose:

    Responsible for the proper storage and distribution of drugs; receives and accounts for drugs coming from all vendors. Delivers drugs to patient care and other areas; picks up drug returns and applicable paperwork; and puts all returned unit-dose products back to proper receipts. Responsible for filling patient drug boxes, floor stock orders and automated dispensing cabinets. Assists Pharmacists as directed. Maintains daily report.

    Responsibilities:

    • Accurately fills floor stock request.
    • Prepare correct labeling for bulk drugs.
    • Perform basic pharmaceutical calculations.
    • Basic understanding of concept of physical stability and chemical stability as it relates to parenteral pharmaceuticals.
    • Correctly interpret physician orders and can distinguish between pharmaceutical orders, laboratory tests, radiology, nursing and other orders.
    • Perform monthly medication storage area inspections.
    • Selects drugs from stock in proper dose, dosage form and quantity as ordered by physician under direct supervision of a pharmacist.
    • Understands microbial contamination and exhibits Aseptic Technique while preparing sterile pharmaceutical products.
    • Repackages drugs into unit of use container.

    Education and Formal Training Required:

    • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required AND one of the following:
    • Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program
    • Six months of previous pharmacy technician experience
    • Six months experience as a Pharmacy Technician Assistant or Trainee within the UPMC Health SystemEnrollment in an undergraduate pharmacy program and in good standing

    Experience Required:

    • Must be familiar with typewriter keyboard and demonstrate the ability by producing a neat, accurate and legible copy.
    • Individual must have ability to adapt to the computerized Pharmacy Information Systems utilized. I
    • ndividual must demonstrate initiative and good judgment.

    Previous pharmacy experience preferred, must be registered with the state board of pharmacy as a Registered Pharmacy Technician

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    PA State Board of Pharmacy Registration required for all PA locations
