About the Department
The UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of just 57 in the nation to hold that designation by the National Cancer Institute and the first in Virginia. At the Cancer Center Investigational Drug Services Pharmacy our pharmacy technicians are essential to the safe accurate and patient-centered preparation of investigational intravenous IV and oral chemotherapy in adherence to study protocols.
What We Do
Pharmacy Technicians in this department Compound IV sterile medications using aseptic technique in accordance with USP 797 USP 800 and other established practices and policies
Support clinical and research workflows
Collaborate with pharmacists to ensure accuracy and efficiency
Document all assigned safety and quality activities in compliance with department procedures

Minimum Qualifications
Education High School Graduate or EquivalentExperience 6 months minimum relevant experience requiredLicensureCertifications Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Registration required. CPhT credential through National Healthcareer Association NHA or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board PTCB required. For team members hired prior to February 1 2020 certification as CPhT through NHA or PTCB is required by January 31 2022.

Onboarding RequirementsBackground checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen.
The starting base rate for this role is 20.68 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidates qualifications previous work experience andor education.
