Job Summary:
Under general supervision, Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting the Pharmacist to provide safe, effective delivery of medications to patients based on medical providers orders and prescriptions. He or she follows pharmacy policies and procedures designated by Family and Childrens Services, governing entities including, but not limited to Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, Federal Drug Administration, and Drug Enforcement Agency. The Pharmacy Technician rotates among 10 different stations within the pharmacy, assisting the Pharmacist as the primary responsibility while effectively being attentive to detail, communicating, problem solving, providing excellent customer service, managing time effectively, and being an integral part of clients care team.
POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communication
- Communicates effectively with nursing staff regarding prior authorizations and quantity limit overrides. Fills out and sends appropriate paperwork and follows up on incomplete requests.
- Answers phone in a timely manner while speaking in a friendly tone. Takes appropriate amount of time on the phone to maintain workflow while adequately addressing customer concerns
- Makes appropriate patient profile and prescription notes regarding issues with prescriptions
- Calls clients proactively when there are delays in getting prescriptions, such as needing to order, PA's, etc.
- Responds to Teams chats among agency employees in a timely manner
- Provides frequent updates to team regarding client care avoiding any delays in prescription processing
- Refers patients appropriately to PAP team for assistance
- Assists with delivery preparation communicating with clients via phone and preparing accurate delivery list to send to courier
- Calls clients as necessary to alert them of delays in medications due to needing a PA or needing to order a medication
- Notifies Pharmacist of all Drug Utilization Reviews and counseling opportunities
Problem Solving
- Resolves insurance rejections as needed to ensure appropriate billing of prescriptions
- Uses critical thinking to enhance client access to medications
- Attempts to utilize all available resources to fix a problem before asking for help
- Looks ahead in the process to predict potential problems and notifies supervisor before issues arise
Detail Oriented
- Enters data accurately and efficiently from new prescriptions sent via electronic prescribing, fax, and handwritten or transferred prescriptions.
- Ensures correct drug is selected from the shelf and appropriate quantity is dispensed under the pharmacist's supervision
- Searches for appropriate insurance information and enters information correctly and appropriately
- Completes routine file maintenance when refilling or entering a new patient into pharmacy software
Time Management
- Completes assigned work on time without continual reminders
- Stays on task at assigned station and able to multi-task effectively
- Effectively meets deadlines for daily, weekly, or monthly projects assigned by supervisor
- Finds ways to keep busy and productive when workflow is slower than normal or when there is downtime

Customer Service

- Maintains good rapport with co-workers, patient care personnel, clients and others to ensure a smooth-running pharmacy.
- Maintains strict cleanliness standards.
- Checks and processes all voice mail prescriptions routinely.
- When placing filled prescriptions in bags or sacks for pick-up verify patients name on each prescription bottle label to name on prescription receipt.
- Assists with client questions and concerns
- Uses professional judgement to determine when to involve pharmacists and other supervisors in a de-escalation situation
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
- Must be a high school graduate or have HS equivalent
EXPERIENCE:
- Have satisfactorily completed a pharmacy technician on-the-job training program described by OSBP.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:
- Must be able to meet the requirements for a Pharmacy Technician permit in the State of Oklahoma
SAFETY SENSITIVE JOB CLASSIFICATION:
This job is classified as a "safety-sensitive" position as defined by the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act. Due to the "safety-sensitive" classification, an employee in this position would be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing.
