The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) is seeking a qualified and dependable Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacy operations within a federal correctional healthcare environment on site at FCI Gilmer in Glenville, West Virginia. This is for day shift, Monday through Friday, 35 hours per week across seven one-hour sessions a day.
The Pharmacy Technician works under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist and as part of the institution's healthcare team to provide safe, accurate, and timely pharmacy services to incarcerated patients. The position requires a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, confidentiality, and adherence to federal, state, Bureau of Prisons, and institutional policies and procedures.

Because this position is located within a federal correctional institution, the Pharmacy Technician must be able to balance patient care responsibilities with institutional security requirements.
The Pharmacy Technician is expected to:
Required Qualifications
Current registration with the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician in good standing.
Current national pharmacy technician certification (CPhT) through one of the following:
Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), or
National Healthcareer Association (NHA/ExCPT).
High school diploma or GED.
Completed formal pharmacy technician program with internship.
At least one year of experience.
Current BLS CPR Card.
Knowledge of pharmacy terminology, medication names, dosage forms, and pharmacy procedures.
Ability to accurately perform pharmacy calculations and medication-related tasks.
Ability to operate pharmacy computer systems and other electronic healthcare systems.
Ability to maintain strict patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and applicable federal requirements.
Ability to work effectively in a secure correctional environment.
Must meet applicable Federal Bureau of Prisons employment, security, medical, background investigation, and suitability requirements.

The West Virginia Board of Pharmacy's current rules recognize PTCB and NHA as national pharmacy technician certification organizations.
Federal Bureau of Prisons Employment Requirements
Applicants must meet applicable Federal Bureau of Prisons employment requirements. Depending on the position and institution, BOP employment may require a background investigation, drug screening, medical examination, and the ability to perform correctional work. BOP states that employees working in correctional institutions must be able to perform correctional work regardless of their specific occupation.
