Job Title: Pharmacy Data TechnicianJob Description

The Pharmacy Data Technician enters and processes new and refill prescriptions with a high level of accuracy, supports daily pharmacy operations, and helps ensure timely dispensing of medications for long-term care patients. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent data entry skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Enter new and refill prescriptions into the pharmacy operating system accurately and promptly to help eliminate dispensing errors.
  • Triage incoming faxed prescriptions to ensure timely processing and dispensing.
  • Record clear and complete notes in the computer system, including appropriate cycle fill coding.
  • Calculate and verify correct medication dosages based on prescription information.
  • Receive, evaluate, and process refill requests, and follow up with doctors' offices as needed for all assigned refills.
  • Develop proficiency in all pharmacy systems, including document imaging and the legacy pharmacy computer operating system.
  • Assist with filing completed orders and packaging medications as needed.
  • Support profiling of orders for medical records and filling processed prescriptions for dispensing to patients.
  • Learn and follow the medication cycle process in order to meet delivery deadlines for long-term care facilities.
  • Maintain accurate data entry records for cycle medications, fill requests, and renewal orders in addition to new cycle orders.
  • Consistently manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, efficiency, and a customer service-focused mindset.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy staff to ensure smooth daily operations and high-quality service to nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and group homes.

Essential Skills

  • 2+ years of related pharmacy or pharmacy data entry experience.
  • Strong data entry skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Customer service-focused mindset with a commitment to timely and accurate prescription processing.
  • Ability to calculate and verify correct medication dosages based on prescriptions.
  • Proficiency or ability to quickly learn pharmacy computer systems, including document imaging and legacy pharmacy operating systems.
  • Dependable work habits and reliability in supporting daily pharmacy operations.
  • Pharmacy technician license or certification is highly preferred.

Work Environment

This position is based in a long-term care pharmacy that fills prescriptions for nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and group homes, rather than a retail pharmacy setting. The schedule follows a rotating shift Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., with a weekend rotation approximately every fourth weekend. The role begins as a contract assignment covering a maternity leave, with a strong possibility of long-term opportunity based on performance. After demonstrating capability and reliability, there is an opportunity to work in a hybrid arrangement. The pharmacy operates in a newly opened, modern facility. The dress code is casual; team members may wear jeans and t-shirts, with a requirement for closed-toe shoes. Shorts are permitted if they are above the knee, and open-shoulder shirts are not allowed, ensuring a professional and safe work environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
