Description

Pharmacy Assistant: This 1.0 FTE/Full-time position is scheduled to work 8-HR day shifts and is UFCW represented. 

Compensation: Non-Exempt,$24.45/HR — $38.16/HR. Placement within this range is based on years of applicable experience.

Job Summary

Responsible for providing administrative and clerical support for Anti-Coagulation operations, including answering telephones, scheduling appointments, coordinating referrals, tracking patient follow-up visits, maintaining patient records, and supporting workflows. Assists with insurance verification, authorizations, and communication with patients, providers, pharmacies, and outside entities to support continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes. Promotes a “Patients First” experience and supports a positive workplace by maintaining a professional environment and completing assigned responsibilities accurately and in a timely manner.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides front-office support by greeting patients and visitors, answering phones, registering patients, maintaining patient records, and accurately entering and updating demographic and financial information.
  2. Performs patient scheduling, pre-registration, and registration functions, including verification of insurance eligibility, obtaining necessary authorizations, and maintaining confidentiality standards in accordance with organizational policies.
  3. Manages patient appointment scheduling and follow-up activities, including scheduling/rescheduling appointments, maintaining patient follow-up lists, coordinating referrals and order renewals, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to support continuity and coordination of patient care.
  4. Provides administrative support for clinic operations including processing requests from outside entities (e.g., pharmacy refill requests and consultation notes) and supporting anticoagulation and vaccine patient workflows.
  5. Provides administrative support to anticoagulation pharmacists and assists with departmental workflow needs as assigned.
  6. Orders and maintains office and clinical supplies.
  7. Completes tasks in accordance with department standards for quality, accuracy, timeliness, and customer service.
  8. Follows established work procedures, policies, and regulations.
  9. Demonstrates respect and professionalism toward patients, families, visitors, and co-workers through courteous and inclusive service.
  10. Maintains work and waiting areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Clerical and office experience with patient scheduling and registration preferred.

Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations

  1. Pharmacy Technician Certification from the Department of Health (DOH), within 90 days.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Intermediate computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  2. Knowledge of medical billing and coding and medical terminology.
  3. Experience working with electronic medical records and scheduling systems preferred.
  4. Knowledge of insurance policies, and applicable government and legal regulations and standards.
  5. Professional and effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to identify and employ communication strategies appropriate to the audience.
  6. Ability to manage multiple priorities and display flexibility in a fast-paced and changing work environment.
