Title: Pharmacy Assistant
Location: Oklahoma City, OK
Duration: 40 hours with option to extend (not to exceed 12 months total)
Location & Schedule: Onsite Five days a week, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM
Description:
Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities for assisting in filling prescriptions and dispensing drugs in a state institution or state warehouse. This is the career level where employees are assigned responsibilities for assisting registered pharmacists in filling prescriptions, maintaining an inventory of drugs and medicines, and other related technical duties. Limited responsibilities may be assigned for providing training and assistance to pharmacy clerks.
Position Responsibilities / Essential Functions:
- Assists pharmacist in filling prescriptions; uses repackaging machine and heat sealer.
- Receives, maintains, and completes inventory reports for medical and pharmaceutical supplies requisitioned.
- Ensures that medications are kept separated according to 340B requirements, funding source, and program area.
- Assists pharmacist with ensuring accurate medication pricing is loaded in EHR.
- Receives, maintains, and completes inventory reports for medical and pharmaceuticals used in the treatment and management of illnesses.
- Types labels and posts all information on appropriate records, including EMR or EHR systems.
- Distributes filled and labeled prescriptions to County Health Departments.
- Ensures that drug supplies are used according to dates; removes outdated supplies from stock; assists in maintaining inventory; requisitions supplies; checks incoming supplies for dates, dosage, and conformance with requisition.
- Assists in monitoring the electronic temperature monitoring system to ensure product integrity.
- Cleans and maintains pharmaceutical equipment; prepares standard solutions.
- Assists and supports all pharmacy operations-related duties, including pharmacy phone and email monitoring.
- Assists pharmacist with inventory management, electronic health records, and other projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Requirements at this level consist of three years of experience as a pharmacy clerk; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting the completion of thirty semester hours of college coursework for each year of the required experience.
Valued Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical inventory systems.
- Knowledge of basic pharmacology.
- Knowledge of public health practices and medical terminology as applied to therapeutics.
- Knowledge of procedures followed in filling, labeling, and distributing medical prescriptions.
- Knowledge of the use of scales, measures, and other dispensing devices.
- Knowledge of hospital supply procurement procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences through written and verbal communication.
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize time and workload to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to create and implement training and presentations.
- Ability to develop distance training methods.
- Ability to follow pharmacist's instructions precisely.
- Ability to complete necessary records on drug supply and issuance.
- Computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related applications.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Work is typically performed in an office setting and occasionally in a warehouse environment.
- Requires talking, standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms.
- Requires periods of sitting and daily use of a computer, phone, and heat sealer.
- May require moderate lifting, use of a pallet jack, and pushing/pulling a cart.
- Must be able to lift/carry 25 pounds.
