Job Summary:
Performance of professional functions generally associated with the practice of pharmacy in the hosptial setting.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Compounding and preparing ordered pharmaceutical preparations
- Contacting and conferring physicians if there are any questions or irregularities regarding medication orders
- Preparing TPN solutions and Monitoring TPN Patients as required
- Mixing of irrigating solutions and intravenous additive solutions as required using aseptic technique with the laminar air flow hood or CAL, or CACI for hazardous medications
- Shows competencies in aseptic technique, garbing and gowning, and didactic training in IV and HD preparation
- Consulting with physician and nursing staff concerning availability, form, side effects and incompatibilities of currently available drugs
- Responsible for the collection of Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement data
- Interprets prescription orders and contacts provider or insurer as indicated
- Performs medication counseling for patients as requested
- Supervises activities and checks work of pharmacy technicians
- Performs other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:
- Bachelors Degree or Doctorate of Pharmacy, must meet state requirements for Pharmacist and registered by the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy
- Minimum of one year experience in hospital Pharmacy preferred
