Position Summary: A pharmacy technician operates under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist and helps in performing accurate data entry and insurance billing for all prescriptions, accurate filling of prescription medications, helps pharmacy customers on site by operating the Point of Sale (POS) systems to process prescription sales and answers phone calls. The technician must be willing to travel "float" to other pharmacy locations as assigned. The pharmacy technician may perform other delegated tasks assigned under the direct supervision of the pharmacist. The pharmacy technician must have completed a Board of Pharmacy approved pharmacy technician training program as required by statute. Role and Responsibilities: Provide excellent customer service and patient support by treating patients in a friendly and helpful manner with a positive attitude. Assess patient eligibility for dispensing and drug discount or copay programs. Interpret prescription orders and prescription data entry, third party prescription billing, filling, drug ordering and drug invoice reconciliation. Perform transactions at the point of sale and produce end-of-day reports. Answer telephones, assist with refill requests and conduct customer outreach in person or by phone. Assist with the implementation of new projects and/or new service delivery programs. Prepare and assist patients with completing drug assistance program applications, maintaining patient records and providing any necessary follow up. Send patient refill and prior authorization requests to clinicians. Maintain pharmacy inventory and perform regular inventory reconciliation. Assist with the preparation and packaging of prescriptions for shipping Keep pharmacy department neat and free from clutter. Assist with monitoring compliance of the 340B pharmacy program as assigned. Attend pharmacy and staff meetings or trainings as directed by the Director of Pharmacy Services. Perform other related duties as required or assigned by the Director of Pharmacy Services. Skills: Language Skills -The employee must be proficient in typing as well as spelling, punctuation, grammar, and oral communication. The ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Excellent English composition skills required to generate professional, polished writing at a high rate of production. Must be able to listen to complex medical information and summarize in a clear, complete, and concise fashion. Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and treatment assessments to the extent required to understand and accurately transcribe dictated reports. Translate medical abbreviations into their expanded forms. Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, the employee should be able to learn and use all functions of the computer: email, printers, electronic medical record software, translation software, and transcription software. Must accurately enter data into a database, search for information, send and receive email and attachments. Must be proficient in electronic medical record to prepare correspondence, medical reports, and other documents. Other Skills and Abilities - Must be able to type words and numbers quickly and accurately; must comply with HIPAA confidentiality standards when accessing or communicating patient information. Qualifications and Education Requirements: High School Diploma or Equivalent Must have an active registration with the Florida Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician OR Must have completed a Board of Pharmacy approved pharmacy technician program and satisfied the requirements needed to register with the Florida Board of Pharmacy Pass a Level 2 Background screening Minimum Two (2) years of experience in pharmacy setting Required Registration/Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Additional Desired Qualifications: Emotional intelligence and critical thinking skills Strong team skills and excellent work ethic Actively demonstrates a willingness to make a meaningful contribution to the work environment, as evidenced through behavior and attitude.
