Employment Type: FT M-F 9am-5pm (flexibility to start early/stay later)
Position Summary
The Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) serves as the on-site leader for a growing compounding pharmacy and is responsible for the day-to-day operation, regulatory compliance, quality, and overall performance of the pharmacy.
Working closely with the Director of Pharmacy, the PIC provides leadership to pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support staff while ensuring pharmacy operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable federal and state regulations, Board of Pharmacy requirements, USP standards, and established policies and procedures.
The PIC will play a key role in maintaining a strong culture of patient safety, regulatory compliance, quality, accountability, and teamwork. This position is ideal for a pharmacist who enjoys being hands-on, leading a team, and taking ownership of pharmacy operations.
Key Responsibilities
Pharmacy Operations & Leadership

• Oversee the daily operations of the pharmacy, including workflow, staffing, scheduling, productivity, and overall site performance
• Serve as the primary on-site pharmacy leader and resource for pharmacists, technicians, and support staff
• Ensure prescriptions, medication orders, compounding, dispensing, and verification processes are completed accurately, safely, and efficiently
• Monitor workflow and staffing levels and make adjustments as needed to maintain service levels and patient safety
• Identify operational challenges and implement solutions to improve efficiency and quality
• Collaborate with the Director of Pharmacy on operational improvements and strategic initiatives

• Maintain pharmacy operations in compliance with applicable federal and state pharmacy laws and regulations
• Ensure compliance with State Board of Pharmacy requirements, USP standards, applicable accreditation standards, and established SOPs
• Serve as the primary pharmacy contact for Board of Pharmacy inspections, regulatory inquiries, audits, and accreditation activities
• Maintain appropriate pharmacy records, documentation, policies, and regulatory requirements
• Ensure pharmacy personnel maintain all required licenses, registrations, certifications, training, and competencies
• Monitor compliance with applicable controlled substance requirements and procedures, as applicable
• Identify compliance risks and work with the Director of Pharmacy to develop and implement corrective actions

• Oversee compounding and dispensing activities to ensure compliance with applicable 503A requirements and pharmacy procedures
• Ensure appropriate processes are followed for medication preparation, labeling, storage, and dispensing
• Promote a strong culture of medication safety and accuracy
• Review and address medication errors, incidents, complaints, and other patient safety concerns
• Participate in quality assurance and continuous quality improvement initiatives
• Ensure appropriate documentation and follow-up of quality and safety events

• Supervise, train, coach, and evaluate pharmacists, technicians, and pharmacy support staff
• Establish clear expectations for performance, professionalism, productivity, and compliance
• Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and training new pharmacy personnel
• Identify training and development opportunities for pharmacy staff
• Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive working environment
• Address performance or operational issues in a timely and professional manner

• Oversee medication and supply inventory, purchasing, ordering, receiving, storage, and organization
• Monitor inventory levels and minimize waste, shortages, and expired products
• Ensure medications and supplies are stored and handled in accordance with applicable requirements
• Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and compliant pharmacy environment
• Assist with preparation for inspections, audits, and other regulatory or quality reviews

• Active Pharmacist license in good standing in the applicable state
• Ability to serve as the designated Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) in accordance with applicable state requirements
• Minimum 2 years of pharmacy experience; 3–5+ years preferred
• Previous pharmacy leadership, supervisory, or management experience strongly preferred
• Compounding pharmacy experience preferred
• Experience in a 503A pharmacy environment preferred
• Strong understanding of applicable pharmacy regulations, USP standards, and quality/compliance requirements
• Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to effectively manage competing priorities in a fast-paced pharmacy environment
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to medication safety and patient care

• Previous experience serving as a Pharmacist-in-Charge or Pharmacy Manager
• Experience with 503A compounding operations
• Experience working with State Board of Pharmacy inspections or regulatory audits
• Experience developing or maintaining pharmacy SOPs and quality assurance programs
• Experience leading and developing pharmacy teams

• 503A compounding pharmacy environment
• Non-sterile and/or sterile compounding operations, as applicable to the site
