    Position Specific Description

    The role involves ensuring the implementation and management of the PGD Environmental Management System, overseeing site water, wastewater, and vegetation in accordance with environmental permits. This position is responsible for managing all regional aspects of environmental compliance, while supporting the execution of plant processes and procedures to achieve safety, environmental, compliance, reliability, availability, and cost management goals for FPL Solar and Energy Storage. Occasional out-of-state travel, sometimes with overnight stays, is required.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Environmental Maintenance & Performance Optimization

    • Optimize site environmental maintenance and performance.

    • Conduct and submit required inspection and maintenance activities on time per site environmental permits.

    • Prepare and submit environmental reporting to local, state, and federal agencies promptly.

    Compliance Management

    • Oversee adherence to site SPCC (Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasure) and FRP (Facility Response Plan) requirements.

    • Develop and maintain relationships with local, state, and federal agencies.

    • Apply process and project management skills to deliver results effectively.

    • Address site environmental deficiencies proactively.

    Process Standardization & Leadership

    • Standardize processes, procedures, and techniques for repeatability.

    • Demonstrate leadership for internal employee development and performance management.

    Transition from Construction to Operations:

    • Conduct Pre-COD Site Walkdowns to document ongoing civil issues and ensure compliance.

    • Identify and resolve operational environmental issues before COD and ensure completion of lingering items before turnover.

    • Collect site information and initiate permitting for all office buildings or operational structures.

    • Review and ensure compliance with site-specific county, state, and federal permits.

    • Coordinate contractors and set up contracts for ongoing compliance-related maintenance and monitoring.

    • Create procedures for any site-specific compliance requirements.

    • Ensure proper close-out and sign-off on all construction-related permits, supporting final agency walkdowns and transitioning active permits to the operations phase.

    • Train new and existing operations crew on compliance requirements.

    Operational Support:

    • Oversee and support the Regional Environmental Program.

    • Continuously verify that Solar & Storage Environmental Management System (EMS) processes and procedures are executed in the field.

    • Manage Compliance Management tracker tasks and deadlines.

    • Prepare for and support internal and external environmental audits.

    • Serve as the local point of contact for agency inquiries and site visits.

    • Provide field support and management of environmental events.

    • Proactively identify and resolve site-specific compliance issues.

    • Perform internal and external reporting on environmental events.

    • Support root cause analysis for environmental events.

    • Maintain site compliance with permit conditions and agency requirements.

    • Ensure sites perform routine inspections and maintenance events ahead of due dates.

    • Manage contractor oversight and environmental compliance programs, including stormwater management, conservation lands maintenance, vegetation management, wildlife trapping response, oil spill prevention, and response.

    • Conduct regional annual staff environmental awareness and compliance training.

    • Handle civil/stormwater management and contractor coordination, hazardous material management, tracking, and disposal.

    • Track water use permitting, reporting, and well management.

    • Manage environmental record retention and document management.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or a related field.

    • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations.

    • Familiarity with local flora, fauna, and habitats.

    • Strong oral and written communication skills.

    • Proficiency in analysis, problem-solving, compliance, leadership, and process/project management.

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

    This role is critical for ensuring environmental compliance and operational efficiency in NextEra Energy Resources Solar and Energy Storage projects in the assigned region.

    Job Overview

    Employees in this role are responsible for assuring execution of the PGD Environmental Management System and ensuring regional environmental compliance in accordance with federal, state and county permits.

    Job Duties & Responsibilities

    • Compliance Assurance - Continuous verification Solar and Storage Environmental Management System (EMS) processes and procedures are executed in the field
    • Environmental agency interface - Local point of contact for agency inquiries and site visits
    • Environmental Event Response - Field support and management of environmental issues, proactively identify and resolve site specific compliance issues to prevent or minimize environmental impacts during events
    • Quarterly site-specific operational environmental compliance assessments and inspections ahead of EMS due date
    • Environmental Compliance Program - Maintain site compliance with permit conditions and agency requirements
    • Environmental contractor management and oversight for Stormwater management system maintenance, conservation lands vegetation management, wildlife trapping, oil spill response
    • Perform regional staff environmental awareness and compliance training
    • Transition to Operations support: Incorporate new site into Solar and Storage Environmental Management System (EMS)
    • Identify and resolve operations related environmental issues prior to COD
    • Environmental record retention / management
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
