    SUMMARY

    The Personnel Specialist performs a variety of complex personnel work in the District Talent Division, requiring a broad knowledge of District and personnel policies regarding Administrative, Certified, and Classified Support Staff. Maintains a high level of confidentiality.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Processes personnel action requests for new hires, changes of assignment due to promotion, and other key employee changes. Calculates salaries based on education and experience to be placed on the appropriate salary schedule and for the issuance of contracts. Verifies information for accuracy, makes needed changes.
    • Verifies professional development for the purpose for certification renewal, as well as for compensation when applicable. Records new and renewed certifications.
    • Prepares and issues employee contracts and works with Talent Staff to prepare personnel related items for Governing Board agendas.
    • Advertises job opening by posting vacant positions; screens applications and refers qualified applicants to hiring departments and sites. Provides information and support to candidates and hiring managers regarding position openings and the hiring process.
    • Maintains District personnel records on employment status, staffing, reduction in force, recall, surplus, reassignment, seniority, shift differential, and longevity of District personnel. Provides information regarding employment, position openings, pay rates, and benefits to staff via email and phone.
    • Processes and verifies all additional compensation pay for coaching and non-coaching assignments (e.g., Performing Arts, JROTC and ACADEC). Processes and verifies industrial claims.
    • Provides guidance and assistance to Administration Offices regarding District policies and procedures; collects data and compiles reports for administration and the other agencies as needed; reviews and edits materials for conformance with policies.
    • Meets with all campuses to review future staffing needs, verifies current changes have been submitted, and completes paperwork necessary to make unsubmitted changes.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • High School diploma or GED equivalent; Associate's degree in Human Resources or a related field preferred; AND three years of administrative support, human resources, or payroll related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
