    Job Title: Permit Coordinator

    We are seeking a Permit Coordinator to join our team. The Permit Coordinator reviews all building permit applications for compliance with the Code of the City of Aberdeen, Chapter 235 - Development Code and processes the building permit applications and supporting documents for review and approval. The Permit Coordinator will work closely with the Harford County Department of Inspections, Licenses and Permits and other external agencies as needed.

    Responsibilities:

    • Review, process and issue all building permit applications, zoning certificates, Tenant Occupancy Permits, Certificates of Occupancy, peddler permits, demolition permits, and sign permits. Collects all associated fees relating to the permits.
    • Learns to navigate and process building permits through the Harford County Department of Inspections, Licenses and Permits permitting software.
    • Coordinates with Harford County Health Department, State Fire Marshal's Office, and other agencies as appropriate to approve building permits.
    • Maintain reports and logs associated with building permit activities.
    • Provide assistance to the Director of Planning and Community Development, Planner, and Main Street Coordinator as needed.
    • Receive phone calls and emails for the Department, assist customers, direct customers to the proper person or appropriate agencies for additional assistance or information.
    • Manage and maintain a database of scanned building permits and associated plans.
    • Coordinate with the City Clerk on Maryland Public Information Requests that relate to the Department of Planning and Community Development.
    • Work closely with the Department of Public Works and other city departments as needed to issue building permits. This may include approval of erosion and sediment control permit applications and the collection of water and sewer area connection charges.

    Requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Strong organizational and time management skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Familiarity with local building codes and permit processes is a plus.
    • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
    • Excelent Customer Service Skills
