Purpose Statement
The job of the Permanent Support Specialist is done for the purpose/s of providing classroom coverage as assigned when certified special education teachers are absent. The permanent support specialist must be confident teaching a wide range of developmental age groups from K-5, 6-8, and 9-12.

General Subject Responsibilities
The Permanent Substitute may be required to cover a class each teaching block on some days. If no coverage is needed for any of the blocks, the Permanent Substitute will assist other classroom teachers to help students with their class assignments or may also be assigned to another building, as needed.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including utilizing pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; planning and managing projects; analyzing data; applying assessment instruments; facilitating meetings; and promoting activities and/or events.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; college entry requirements; assessment instruments and techniques; cultural differences of student population; office equipment and technology; recordkeeping and record retention practices; Career Technical Education; Carl D. Perkins law; career planning process; and various assessments and data sources.
ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit objectives; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; tracking budget expenditures. Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 45% sitting,
25% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
