Duties
SUMMARY
To enable each student to pursue their education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular teacher. The primary usage of this position will be to fill an unfilled teaching vacancy. Individuals filling this position must be working towards appropriate certification related to the vacancy they are filling. Additionally, this position may be utilized as a substitute teacher or paraprofessional throughout the district.
- Teaches District approved curriculum.
- Reports to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school building.
- Reviews with the principal, department, or team leader all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.
- Prepares instructional materials, activities, and written lesson plans in conjunction with the regular classroom teacher.
- Continues class activities in an orderly manner by maintaining classroom behavior, discipline, and management.
- Assumes all special duties of the regular classroom teacher (hall duty, playground duty, bus duty, etc.)
- Assumes grading procedures and student evaluations as initiated by the regular teacher.
- Be responsible for submitting all required building and District classroom reports.
- Counsels students regarding their performance.
- Informs the building principal of any special needs or problems.
- Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which they are assigned.
- Teaches the lesson outlined and described in the Substitute Teacher's Guide as prepared by the absent teacher.
- Consults as appropriate with the building principal, department head, or team leader before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified by the teacher's guide.
- Assumes responsibility for overseeing student behavior in class and during other school times as necessary.
- Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
- Maintain professional and courteous working relationships with all stakeholders - fellow employees, students, parents, and community members.
- Communicate in a professional, acceptable, and courteous manner with all stakeholders - fellow employees, students, parents, and community members.
- Performs all other duties reasonably related to position as may be assigned by administration.
- May be required to perform other tasks as assigned by the Building Principal or Superintendent.
SCHEDULING
The work hours for this position are 7:50 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. The schedule is subject to change with district demands. Overtime maybe requested.
Qualifications
- Valid State of Illinois Professional Educator License in the field(s) in which they substitute or a substitute teacher license.
- Full Sub license with 90+ hours College course work 90+ hours in educations or BS
- Knowledge of Google Suite, Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, etc.
- Ability to maintain professional and courteous working relationships with all stakeholders - fellow employees, students, parents, and community members.
- Ability to communicate in a professional, acceptable, and courteous manner with all stakeholders - fellow employees, students, parents, and community members.
- Enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner.
