Job Title: Medical Director – Primary Care

About the Position:
Brattleboro Memorial Hospital is seeking an experienced and visionary Medical Director to lead our expanding Primary Care network in beautiful southern Vermont. This full-time leadership role blends clinical excellence with strategic oversight, offering the opportunity to shape the future of primary healthcare across multiple outpatient sites. Key Responsibilities:
  • Clinical Leadership & Practice: Provide direct patient care in primary care settings while actively engaging in clinical practice to stay connected with patient needs and clinical workflows.
  • Team Oversight: Lead and mentor a diverse team of 50 healthcare providers across four outpatient primary care sites, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • Quality Improvement & Safety: Develop, implement, and monitor clinical protocols based on evidence-based practices; lead initiatives to improve patient safety, outcomes, and service quality.
  • Operational Excellence: Collaborate with practice managers and administrative leaders to optimize workflows, staffing, scheduling, and electronic health records (EHR) utilization.
  • Staff Development & Recruitment: Play a pivotal role in recruiting, onboarding, and retaining outstanding primary care clinicians; support ongoing education, training, and professional development.
  • Population Health & Growth: Lead efforts toward value-based care, cost containment, and population health strategies; identify opportunities for service expansion and practice growth.
  • Regulatory & Risk Management: Oversee patient safety programs, incident reviews, complaint resolution, and compliance with infection control and public health standards.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the organization’s strategic direction, financial planning, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Educational Engagement: Support CME activities, case reviews, peer reviews, and performance assessments to promote continuous learning and clinical excellence.


Qualifications:
  • Board Certified in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Pediatrics (Board Eligible candidates considered if within the credentialing period).
  • Valid medical license to practice in Vermont or eligible for licensure.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in primary care or outpatient clinic settings.
  • Strong commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, and team development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Compensation & Benefits:
  • Salary: $200,000 – $260,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
