The University of Virginia is a highly competitive Division I program committed to academic and athletic excellence. The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is now accepting applications for a Performance Nutrition Coordinator.

This is a one-year developmental position designed for RD-eligible candidates seeking experience in elite collegiate football performance nutrition. Primary responsibilities include fueling station operations, inventory management, intern program oversight, athlete-facing support, and management of Teamworks AMS and Teamworks Performance Kitchen systems. The role will also provide exposure to applied sports nutrition practices including hydration testing, body composition assessment, practice and game day fueling support, and nutrition education initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide daily athlete-facing customer service and support within all fueling station environments.
  • Oversee the Sports Nutrition Intern Program, including recruiting, onboarding, training, and weekly schedule management to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Manage inventory operations, including tracking product usage, placing vendor orders, receiving deliveries, and reconciling shipments.
  • Stock and maintain the primary fueling station and eleven satellite fueling locations to established par levels.
  • Maintain food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards across all fueling locations in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of Teamworks AMS and Teamworks Performance Kitchen systems.
  • Support additional nutrition operations as assigned, including hydration and sweat testing, weigh-ins, practice fueling/hydration, game day support, nutrition education, and social media initiatives.
  • Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned in support of Football Performance Nutrition.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related workplace technology.
  • Strong customer service skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with staff while contributing to a positive team culture.
  • Valid drivers license, reliable personal transportation, and ability to travel locally as needed for departmental operations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information in accordance with HIPAA and institutional standards.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelors degree in nutrition, dietetics, exercise physiology, kinesiology, sport management, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. RD eligible or actively pursuing RD eligibility.

Experience: Interest or experience in sports nutrition, athletics operations, foodservice, inventory management, or collegiate athletics support.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Masters degree in nutrition, dietetics, exercise physiology, business, or related field.

Experience: Experience in collegiate or professional athletics, fueling operations, inventory management, scheduling, student staff supervision, hydration monitoring, or body composition assessment.

Licensure/Certifications: RD/RDN, CSSD, ServSafe, or other relevant certifications preferred.

Physical Demands

This role is active and involves regular time on your feet, including moving and handling inventory and boxes. Candidates should be comfortable performing physical tasks and working in a dynamic environment.
