Per Diem Veterinary Technician – Emergency

$26.00–$40.00/hour (DOE) + $5.50/hour Shift Differential (6:00 PM–6:00 AM)

Join the Emergency & Critical Care team at SAGE San Francisco and provide advanced nursing care for critically ill and injured patients on a flexible schedule. As a Per Diem Veterinary Technician, you'll work alongside board-certified specialists, emergency clinicians, and an experienced multidisciplinary team while making a lifesaving difference for pets and their families.

Per Diem Requirements: This is a casual, as-needed position. Team members are required to work a minimum of one shift per month to maintain active per diem status.

In Your Day-to-Day, You Will

  • Triage emergency patients and prioritize care based on medical urgency.
  • Monitor critically ill, unstable, and recovering patients.
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, oxygen therapy, CRIs, and other treatments.
  • Assist with emergency procedures, diagnostics, and patient stabilization.
  • Perform venipuncture, catheter placement, laboratory sample collection, and patient monitoring.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with veterinarians, technicians, and pet owners.
  • Ensure emergency equipment and supplies are clean, stocked, and ready for use.
  • Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture.

What You Bring

  • High school diploma required.
  • Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license preferred but not required.
  • Previous Emergency or Specialty Veterinary experience required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) within 60 days of hire or transfer (not required for licensed RVTs).
  • Strong mathematical skills for calculating drug dosages, CRIs, client estimates, and invoices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and composure in a fast-paced emergency environment.
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional patient care.
