The Norfolk Community Services Board (NCSB) provides treatment, support, and education to the community with a focus on mental illness, substance use addiction, and intellectual/developmental disabilities. Norfolk CSB provides services to persons in acute crisis as well as integrated, person-centered, and recovery-oriented programming for persons needing assistance and support stabilizing in the community.
Today, the NCSB provides treatment and rehabilitation services to over 6,000 Norfolk citizens yearly. Norfolk CSB seeks team members interested in providing skilled services in a public service environment. The NCSB is seeking a Peer Recovery Specialist This position works in a dynamic team environment, providing early intervention in mental health crises through a mobile response. Services are deployed in real-time to the location of the individual experiencing a behavioral health crisis. The purpose of this service is to
de-escalate the behavioral health crisis and prevent harm to the individual or others, assist in developing an immediate plan to maintain safety, coordinate care, and link to appropriate treatment services to meet the needs of the individual.

Essential Functions
Education/Experience
High School Diploma or GED.
Two years of experience working with consumers with mental health and substance use challenges. Personal Recovery Plan in self-demonstrated recovery.
Additional Information & Requirements
Work Hours: Sunday - Thursday 12:00 AM - 8:30 AM
Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees may receive paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer paid pension plan, basic life insurance, voluntary participation in medical and dental, Section 457 deferred compensation, long-term disability, optional life insurance for self, spouse and children, medical and dependent care reimbursement plans, access to membership in credit union and employer provided parking.
Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization.
Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union.
Retirement
If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
