We currently have 2 nurse practitioners dedicated to the pediatric heart transplant team as well as 2 dedicated congenital heart surgeons who perform surgical procedures on congenital heart disease patients of all ages with some of the best risk-adjusted mortality rates in the country. UVA is the lead institution in the Virginia Congenital Cardiac Consortium, a three-institution collaborative that directs the highest complexity patients to the University of Virginia Childrens Hospital. The surgical program averages 10 pediatric cardiac transplants yearly in addition to placement and management of mechanical circulatory devices. Our Childrens Heart Program has been ranked in the top 50 in the US News and World Report annual survey each of the past 8 years.

The UVA Medical Center and Children's Hospital are located in the midst of the main university grounds of the University of Virginia. UVA is annually ranked as one of the premier public institutions in the United States and is located in Charlottesville, a picturesque small but cosmopolitan city perennially ranked as one of the best places to live in the U.S.
