CHRISTUS Children''s, a world-class 240-bed freestanding children''s hospital in San Antonio, serves as a focal point for pediatric services throughout the community. In 2013, CHRISTUS Health finalized an agreement partnering with Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) to recruit, employ, and oversee physicians and advanced practice providers at CHRISTUS Children''s.

Baylor College of Medicine Division of Pediatric General Surgery has an opening for a full-time NP or PA position at CHRISTUS Children''s. Working in a high-volume and patient-oriented clinic, this position will be responsible for the management of patients with pediatric acute and general surgical conditions under the direct supervision of pediatric BCM general surgeons. Job Duties

Responsibilities include assessing, diagnosing, monitoring, promoting health and protection from disease, and managing illnesses and injuries of stable, complex acute and chronically ill pediatric patients. Assess, stabilize, and determine disposition of patients with emergent conditions consistent with medical staff policy regarding emergency and consultative call services. Essential job functions and duties include, but are not limited to:

• Evaluation of new and returning patients in the ED, inpatient wards, and outpatient clinics, including history and physical exams, diagnosis and recommendations for treatment.
• Post-operative care including wound care, dressing changes, and DME prescriptions
• Call coverage

Minimum Qualifications

• Master''s degree in Nursing Studies or Physician Assistant Studies
• APRN recognition by the Texas Board of Nursing or Advanced Physician Assistant certification
• Proficient in the use of surgical instruments and equipment required by work
• Current certifications in Basic Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support
• Demonstrated current competence and provision of care, treatment, or services to at least 250 pediatric patient encounters in the past 12 months or completion of training in the past 12 months.
