Summary: Provides direct patient care within the scope of pediatric dentistry.
Essential Duties: Essential job duties for this position include the following items. Other duties must be performed as assigned or required.
- Performs all functions according to CCHC mission and values.
- Performs oral examinations using x-ray and other special equipment. Diagnoses and treats dental and oral disease. Performs restorations, extractions, prophylactic, and other dental work as indicated. Achieves productivity standards as determined by supervisor.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles, standard practice methods and techniques of pediatric dentistry, preventive dentistry, and educational methodologies utilized in prevention.
- Performs dental operations and treats mouth diseases; refers clients per protocols; confers with physicians regarding medical/dental problems.
- Keeps clinical and other records regarding services provided, supplies and materials used.
- Uses all available resources for diagnosis and treatment in an appropriate and cost-efficient manner.
- Participates in development of dental policies, procedures, dental records, and quality improvement plan.
- Participates in professional education for self to maintain the highest level of expertise.
- Maintains good relationships with other professionals within the community.
- Available for on-call coverage to triage after-hours calls. (Not currently triaging after hours but may be necessary at a later date.)
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of general and pediatric dentistry.
- Practice within scope of license and experience.
- Maintain infection control and safety guidelines.
- Maintain a friendly, respectful, and professional environment for all client contacts.
- Maintain a cooperative, helpful work environment within the Clinic.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding CCHC, its clients, and employees.
- Work toward continuous quality improvement.
- Stay current with changing best practices and technologies.
- Uphold, support, and promote all company policies and procedures.
- Conducting research on defects, diseases, and disorders affecting the oral and/or facial regions.
- Facilitate instruction of dental residents within the AEGD Program at CCHC.
Education/Experience:
- Doctor of Medical Dentistry (DMD) degree, a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree or equivalent degree.
- Eligible for, or possess, Board Certification by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
- Able to qualify for a faculty appointment with NYU Langone Dental Medicine.
- Licensed to practice or able to obtain a license to practice as a Dentist in the state of Iowa.
- Must have or receive in the first 30 days of employment: BLS certification mandatory reporter training. Must be able to pass screening, credentialing, and privileging requirements.
- Must be able to use electronic dental records and other computer software.
- At least 5 years' experience as a pediatric dentist in a clinical setting.
