    Description

    Position Overview

    This position is responsible for researching, identifying, interpreting, and documenting payroll tax regulations and related tax-reporting requirements that are incorporated into the company's products and services. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of payroll and payroll tax compliance, excellent analytical and research skills, and the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear business and technical specifications.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Work under the general direction of the Product Research Team Lead.
    • Research, identify, analyze, and interpret payroll tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
    • Translate complex regulatory requirements into detailed, plain-language use cases and functional requirements.
    • Develop supporting mathematical worksheets and calculations when applicable.
    • Use internal tools, including batch-testing and incident-tracking systems, to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
    • Respond to research and product-support requests within established SaaS service-level agreements.
    • Collaborate with Customer Support, QA, Software Developers, Data Specialists, and Business Analysts.
    • Maintain current knowledge of payroll tax regulations and their application within payroll-related products and services.
    • Complete customer research requests and provide appropriate supporting documentation.
    • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes for assigned tax authorities and jurisdictions.
    • Identify regulatory changes that may affect payroll and tax compliance.
    • Create product update requests and maintain supporting documentation, including authority profiles.
    • Participate in project-related activities to ensure departmental, project, and corporate objectives are achieved.
    • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

    Travel: Some travel may be required.

    Qualifications

    Candidates should meet one of the following education and experience combinations:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred, or
    • Other undergraduate degree with at least 3+ years of payroll and/or payroll tax reporting experience and approximately 2+ years of technical experience in product research and/or software product development, or
    • No degree with at least 10+ years of payroll and/or payroll tax reporting experience and 5+ years of technical experience in product and/or software product development.

    Additional Requirements

    • Recent and relevant experience in Payroll, Payroll Tax, and/or Regulatory Research.
    • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is a plus.
    • Proficiency with SQL and database queries.
    • Strong proficiency with internet-based research tools and the Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal and organizational abilities.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
    • Ability to quickly learn and understand new concepts, regulations, systems, and functions.
    • Highly motivated, results-oriented, and detail-focused.
