As a team we are committed inspired and connected to make a difference in the community.  What You Will DoAs a part of the Department of the Comptroller you will play an important role in assisting with payroll operations. Under the direction of the Payroll Manager you will assist with payroll processing to ensure employees receive their approved compensation in a timely and accurate manner. As the Payroll Specialist you will regularly interact with agencies and respond to staff inquiries while compiling and reviewing payroll data. The work you do will support the payroll team and assist with compliance of all applicable laws and tax obligations.Essential Duties
  • Compile and review payroll data calculate pay adjustments and input data into payroll system andor VTI.
  • Audit payroll data and reports for accuracy. Assist in the resolution of discrepancies to ensure accurate posting to payroll records
  • Process payroll and all payroll-related forms and review for completeness and accuracy.
  • Interpret federal and state laws in order to answer routine questions and aid in the processing of W2 and other federal and multi-state tax forms.
  • Interact with Federal State and other agencies on issues pertaining to employee compensation or mandatory deductions.
  • Respond to routine payroll-specific inquiries from staff. Consistently apply payroll-related government regulations and staff collective agreements.
  • Compile reports as required by management and government agencies including maintaining bi-weekly gross-to-net records for monthly quarterly and year-end reconciliation.
  • Ensure all work is complete and timely to support department goals. Evaluate feedback and procedures to improve efficiency.

  • Associate degree or two years of college in a related field
  • Three or more years of related experience
