Payroll Manager | Multi-State Payroll & Benefits
Location: San Antonio, TX - Hybrid options after onboarding
Compensation: up to $120,000

Join a growing organization as a hands-on Payroll Manager responsible for leading multi-state payroll operations, payroll tax compliance, process improvement, and benefits administration for a workforce of approximately 2,000 employees.

This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll leader who thrives in both strategy and execution. The ideal candidate will be a player-coach who can manage a team while remaining actively involved in payroll processing, compliance, audits, and system optimization.

Key Responsibilities

• 
  
• Lead end-to-end payroll processing for a multi-state workforce of approximately 2,000 employees
• 
  
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
• 
  
• Manage payroll for hourly and salaried employees, including overtime, commissions, bonuses, and garnishments
• 
  
• Oversee payroll audits, reporting, controls, and year-end processing
• 
  
• Drive payroll automation and process improvements within Paylocity and HRIS platforms
• 
  
• Reduce manual processes and improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability
• 
  
• Oversee benefits administration, including 401(k), FMLA, ADA, short-term disability, and employee benefit programs
• 
  
• Partner with HR, Finance, and Operations leadership to support business growth
• 
  
• Lead, mentor, and develop payroll team members
• 
  

Qualifications

• 
  
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, Business Administration, or related field
• 
  
• 8+ years of progressive payroll leadership experience
• 
  
• Extensive multi-state payroll and payroll tax compliance experience (Colorado experience highly preferred)
• 
  
• Experience supporting organizations with 2,000+ employees
• 
  
• Strong understanding of FLSA, payroll tax regulations, ACA, ERISA, FMLA, and ADA
• 
  
• Experience with Paylocity or comparable payroll/HRIS systems
• 
  
• Proven success improving payroll processes through automation and technology
• 
  
• 401(k) administration experience required
• 
  
• CPP certification preferred
•
