    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Payroll Manager leads payroll operations for Gridstone Holdings and its subsidiaries, covering both bargaining and non-bargaining employees. This role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing in accordance with company controls, applicable laws, and collective bargaining requirements.

    The position serves as the payroll subject-matter expert, supervises Payroll Specialist, resolves complex payroll matters, and partners with Human Resources, Finance, Operations, field leadership, and vendors to support effective payroll administration.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Oversee payroll processing for all Gridstone companies, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll for bargaining and non-bargaining employees.
    • Review and approve payroll, including wages, hours, overtime, deductions, reimbursements, bonuses, employee changes, and off-cycle payments.
    • Administer payroll requirements under collective bargaining agreements, including wage rates, premiums, deductions, overtime, and union contributions.
    • Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, payroll tax requirements, garnishments, certified payroll, prevailing wage, Davis-Bacon, and other applicable regulations.
    • Research and resolve complex payroll discrepancies, employee questions, corrections, adjustments, and payroll tax or compliance matters.
    • Supervise, train, and provide day-to-day direction to the Payroll Specialist, including deadlines, review procedures, quality controls, and coverage.
    • Serve as payroll system administrator and subject-matter expert for payroll and timekeeping systems, configurations, integrations, reporting, and controls.
    • Partner with Human Resources, Finance, Operations, IT, field leadership, vendors, tax providers, auditors, and agencies on payroll administration and reporting.
    • Support year-end payroll activities, reconciliations, W-2 preparation, required reporting, payroll audits, and record maintenance.
    • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, standardized procedures, reporting, efficiency, and employee experience.

    SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS

    Required:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
    • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible payroll experience, including complex payroll administration and multi-state payroll.
    • Strong knowledge of wage and hour requirements, payroll taxation, payroll reporting, and Microsoft Excel.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and deadline-management skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment with sensitive employee information.

    Preferred:

    • Payroll supervisory or team leadership experience.
    • Experience with bargaining and non-bargaining payroll, certified payroll, prevailing wage, Davis-Bacon, or public works compliance.
    • Experience in construction, utility, electrical, infrastructure, or another field-based workforce environment.
    • Experience with multiple payroll and timekeeping systems.
    • CPP or FPC certification preferred.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    This position operates primarily in a professional office environment and regularly interacts with employees, managers, field operations, Human Resources, Finance, and external payroll and benefit providers. Periodic extended hours may be required during payroll processing, year-end activities, system implementations, acquisitions, or other critical payroll periods.
