    Payroll Clerk

    A well-established, growing organization in South Houston is seeking a Payroll Accountant to join its accounting team. This position will support the accurate and timely processing of payroll while also contributing to payroll tax reporting, general ledger activity, and month-end close.

    The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working with payroll calculations and large volumes of data, and trusted to handle sensitive employee information with complete confidentiality.

    Responsibilities:
    • Compile, calculate and enter employee time and other payroll data.
    • Review weekly payroll activity for exceptions, pay-rule discrepancies and audit issues.
    • Calculate employee pay, including deductions, taxes, benefits and overtime.
    • Prepare and upload payroll and direct-deposit files to the bank accurately and on schedule.
    • Calculate federal and state withholding and unemployment taxes using system-generated reports and Excel.
    • Support weekly, biweekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll tax reporting requirements.
    • Prepare payroll-related journal entries and supporting documentation for month-end close.
    • Create accounting reports and provide recurring payroll information to operating divisions.
    • Reconcile payroll information, investigate discrepancies, and ensure timely resolution.
    • Maintain staffing invoices in coordination with Accounts Payable.
    • Assist with additional accounting and month-end close responsibilities as needed.
    • Protect confidential payroll and employee information.

    Qualifications:
    • Previous experience in payroll processing, payroll accounting, or a related accounting role.
    • Working knowledge of payroll deductions, taxes, overtime, and employee benefits.
    • Experience preparing payroll-related journal entries and supporting month-end close.
    • Strong Excel skills and the ability to work accurately with system-generated data.
    • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
    • Ability to manage recurring deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential employee information.
    • Experience supporting multi-state, high-volume or hourly payroll is preferred.
    • Experience in construction, engineering, industrial services, or another project-based environment is a plus.
