    Description

    About the Role

Opendoor employs a talented workforce throughout the US and Canada and across multiple legal entities. We're looking for a detail-oriented, fast-moving payroll and equity professional to support the day-to-day execution of payroll processing and equity administration, and to help us keep improving our systems and controls.

We are a product company. AI and automation is at the heart of what we do. We expect this person to bring a technology-forward operating style: using automation to reduce manual work, and staying sharp on the details that come with payroll and equity administration for a growing company.

This role reports to the Payroll and Equity Manager. You'll be the shared analyst across both payroll and equity administration: helping process payroll, and helping administer equity events such as RSU vestings, option exercises, and ESPP purchases. Because these events flow through payroll, you'll coordinate closely with both managers on timing, withholding, and reconciliation, and will build enough depth in each area to be a reliable backup on both payroll and equity items.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    •     Support multi-entity, multi-country payroll processing. Help process US and Canadian payroll on semi-monthly cycles across multiple legal entities.

    •     Assist with payroll tax compliance across federal, state/provincial, and local jurisdictions, including tracking new state and provincial registrations as needed.

    •     Support quarter end and year end processes, including auditing wages and helping verify W-2 / T4 box configurations.

    •     Partner with the Payroll and Equity team on equity payroll events. Help incorporate RSU vestings, option exercises, and ESPP purchases into payroll runs with correct supplemental withholding, and reconcile payroll records against our equity administration system (E*Trade).

    •     Help manage the complexity that comes with operating across states and provinces: state-specific final pay deadlines, state paid leave programs, imputed income items like group term life, and cross-border sourcing for employees who work in more than one location.

    •     Use AI and automation to reduce manual processes, reconciliation and data flows.

    •     Prepare payroll and equity related journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring they're accurate and completed on time each month.

    •     Respond to employee questions on payroll and equity topics with speed and accuracy, and handle sensitive, confidential situations with discretion. Use AI to automate answers where you can, and help keep payroll and equity information self-serve.

    •     Partner with Accounting, People, and Equity on system enhancements, testing, and process design.

We're looking for teammates who have:

    •     2-3 years of US and Canada payroll experience, including exposure to multi-state / multi-province tax compliance, and local withholding

    •     Multi-entity payroll experience across hourly and salaried populations

    •     A technology-forward operating style: hands-on use of AI tools to automate your own work

    •     Comfort owning outcomes in a fast-changing, high-growth environment while driving clarity and predictability in processes and outcomes

    •     Exceptional accuracy, organization, and discretion with highly sensitive, confidential data

    •     Strong communication skills with employees and cross-functional partners

    •     Proficiency with Google Workspace and comfort operating across multiple systems

    Bonus Points:

    •     Equity / RSU compensation experience: RSU vesting, ESPP, option exercises, and E*TRADE Stock Administration

    •     Rippling payroll experience

    •     Payroll and equity journal entry and balance sheet reconciliation experience

    •     Payroll certification (CPP / FPC)

    •     NetSuite experience

    •     Prior experience at a high-growth or public company
