Responsibilities:
- Provide a warm and welcoming experience for all patients and families.
- Assist patients with self-arrival technology or complete the check-in process based on patient preference.
- Collect copayments and other applicable patient payments at the point of service.
- Confirm and update patient demographic and registration information.
- Schedule follow-up appointments and coordinate ancillary services as needed.
- Guide patients through the healthcare system by providing clear instructions and support.
- Follow up on unresolved patient questions or concerns to ensure continuity of care.
- Utilize service recovery principles to address and resolve patient concerns while supporting the UPMC Experience.
- Enroll patients in the biometrics (fingerprint recognition program and explain its benefits.
- Promote the MyUPMC patient portal and assist patients with registration and navigation.
- Educate patients regarding financial responsibilities and connect them with advocacy resources when appropriate.
- Verify insurance coverage and benefits through online systems and carrier inquiries.
- Obtain required consent and financial responsibility signatures in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Appropriately triage and route phone calls to providers, clinical staff, or other departments.
- Support office operations through administrative tasks, including scanning, faxing, and document management.
- Maintain knowledge of UPMC Patient Portal features and assist patients in accessing health information and care services.
- Collaborate with providers, clinical staff, and office team members to deliver exceptional patient care and customer service.
- Completion of high school graduate or equivalent is required.
- Experience with personal computer-based applications, other various office equipment and proficient typing skills are preferred.
- Two years of experience in a medical / billing / fiscal or customer service function is preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
- Prior experience with Medipac, Epic, or other health records systems is preferred.
