Overview
The Patient Services Coordinator I supports Care Center operations by performing front-end clinical operational activities, such as registering/checking in patients, cashiering, gathering and providing appropriate information, collecting co-pays, and answering the phones under the direction of more senior Care Center staff. This position will additionally schedule and confirm patient appointments, provide routine financial counseling, process insurance, and gather insurance authorization information. The incumbent will interact with patients, families, clinicians, administrative staff, and third-party payers and provide customer service in a courteous and professional manner.
Responsibilities
- Schedule new and follow-up patient appointments. Ensure that appointments are confirmed prior to the date of service.
- Maintain regular contact with patients, clinics, and departments regarding pending insurance clearances, coverage, issues, and/or follow-up activity. Respond to patients, families, and clinic issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Collect patient and treatment information, provide cost estimates, and determine patient liability,
- Help to establish and coordinate payment arrangements with non-par payer sources
- Process various types of insurance for a clinic(s)/provider(s).
- Maintain a general and updated understanding of insurance requirements as they relate to the Care Center.
- Retrieve and assesses system information related to insurance authorization for patient services from the Patient Access department.
- Assist supervisor with training new Patient Services Specialist staff.
- Perform all duties of the Patient Services Specialist and serve as a backup as needed.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience, with a focus on scheduling, registration, and administrative support in a medical/healthcare setting, required.
