Pay Rate: $24 per hour

Summary:

  • Location: New York, NY
  • Work Mode: Local
  • Schedule: Full Time; 5X8 M-F 9AM-5PM
  • Duration: 14 weeks

Responsibilities:

  • Registering, scheduling, and obtaining pre-certification and authorization for patients to ensure payment from a third-party payer.
  • Greeting and registering patients in a tactful and courteous manner.
  • Obtaining all pertinent patient demographic and insurance information and entering it into the appropriate computer system.
  • Pre-registering patients in the hospital's online system and obtaining hospital medical record numbers when necessary.
  • Performing insurance verification checks for Medicare, Medicaid, and/or company in the hospital billing system, and other insurance verification functions as required.
  • Scheduling and maintaining daily appointment schedules, considering resource availability.
  • Setting up clinics for efficient management of appointment flow.
  • Requesting and managing patient charts and medical records before appointments.
  • Retrieving laboratory and radiographic data from clinic information systems and laboratories.
  • Interfacing with referring offices and internal departments to schedule patient exams.
  • Requesting and obtaining valid physician requisitions for all exams and updating billing codes as appropriate.
  • Processing information to ensure timely and complete submission of third-party bills.
  • Preparing all pertinent paperwork, including authorizations, physician requisitions, diagnostic testing requisitions, and transportation reimbursements.
  • Verifying and documenting third-party eligibility, determining patient liability, and obtaining authorizations.
  • Notifying patients of financial obligations for elective admissions and establishing payment arrangements according to financial policies.
  • Counseling patients regarding payment options, Medicaid eligibility, and qualifications for charity care.
  • Interfacing with MEU and Social Services to determine Medicaid eligibility and informing patients of documents required to initiate Medicaid applications.
  • Collecting co-payments and fees, issuing receipts to patients as appropriate, and maintaining records of all financial transactions.

Requirements:

  • One year of clerical experience.
  • Knowledge of health insurance benefits/requirements.
  • Knowledge of Coding: ICD 9, CPT-4.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Data entry skills of 4500 keystrokes.

Preferred Skills:

  • Telephone skills.
  • Computer and keyboard skills.
  • Customer service experience.
