Responsibilities/Job Description:

The Patient Financial Advocate (PFA) - Home Infusion Business Office serves as a key liaison between patients, providers, and payers to ensure patients fully understand their financial obligations and access appropriate financial resources. This role focuses on insurance verification, benefits education, financial counseling, billing inquiries and assistance with payment options or financial aid programs. The PFA promotes a positive patient experience by providing compassionate, clear, and proactive financial guidance. The PFA will support services for Fairview and external clients.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Financial Counseling - Educate patients and families on insurance coverage, benefits, out-of-pocket costs, and billing processes - Provide cost estimates for services and discuss financial responsibilities prior to or during care - Counsel patients on payment options, including payment plans and third-party financing
  • - Insurance Verification & Authorization Support Verify active insurance coverage and benefits, including deductibles, co-pays, co-insurance, and out-of-pocket maximums - Identify authorization requirements and ensure appropriate documentation for payer approval - Communicate coverage limitations and potential financial risks to patients and care teams
  • - Financial Assistance & Advocacy Screen patients for eligibility for financial assistance programs (e.g., charity care, copay assistance, manufacturer programs) for Fairview and external clients - Assist patients in completing applications and collecting required documentation - Advocate on behalf of patients with payers, foundations, or internal departments when financial barriers exist
  • Billing & Account Resolution - Assist patients in understanding statements, resolving billing inquiries, and addressing concerns - Collaborate with billing, coding, and revenue cycle teams to ensure accurate charges and timely resolution of account issues - Monitor patient accounts for financial risk and escalate as needed

Required Qualifications

  • A.A./A.S. Associates degree in healthcare administration, business or related field or equivalent experience
  • 2 years Experience in healthcare financial counseling, insurance verification, reimbursement, or patient access
  • 2 years Experience in home infusion, specialty pharmacy, medical billing, or insurance verification
  • 2 years Strong understanding of commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and government payer programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-centered approach
  • 2 years Ability to explain complex financial information in a clear, empathetic manner
  • 2 years Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

 

Qualifications:

$25.26- $35.67 Hourly
