Description

Pay Rate: $18 per hour - $22 per hour
Shift Hours: 8am-4pm, Monday-Friday

Responsibilities:

  • Greet patients either in person or via telephone and update their insurance/demographics in the practice management system.
  • Verify insurance prior to patient's arrival or at the time of arrival before the visit.
  • Communicate with appropriate staff regarding patient's arrival and ensure that the patient's medical record is available for the physician.
  • Process and update HIPAA-related paperwork and other institutional forms as necessary.
  • Collect or retrieve referrals or insurance authorizations as required.
  • Review the status of the waiting room on a routine basis and ensure that patients are kept advised of wait times.
  • Ensure that patient has paid the co-pay or collect co-pay under the direction of billing staff, providing the patient with a receipt following established cash-control processes.
  • Schedule patient for follow-up appointments as needed and provide guidelines for requesting medical records, if necessary.
  • Answer phones for practice and schedule appointments.
  • Follow all HIPAA and any other governmental or state agency requirements regarding the appropriate handling of PHI documents.
  • Initiate reminder phone calls for next-day appointments.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School graduate/GED.
  • 1 year of physician practice experience.
  • Minimum of one week of on-site training provided by the practice.
  • Keyboarding skills are necessary.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multicultural and language-deficit patients.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in a medical office setting, utilizing a computer system for physician scheduling.
  • IDX or other practice management system experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to adapt to a growing and changing environment.
